MUSHROOM! MUSHROOM!

Submitted by on April 12, 2007 – 10:12 AM24 Comments

I’ve recently gone back to recapping on Television Without Pity — on a show that’s in progress right now, so I had to start cramming episodes frantically to get caught up.For the last week, I’ve spent every available minute staring at ABC.com and making notes and trying to bring myself up to date, but there isn’t exactly an overstock of available minutes around here of late, so in the shower yesterday morning, I found myself grimly singing, “Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters MEETING! MEETING! Uh Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters DISHES! LAUNDRY! Uh Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters Brothers Sisters FEED THE CAAAATS, FEED THE CATS, OH, FEEEEEEED the CAAAATS!”

And here I had the Free to Be You and Me song in my head: Brothers and Sisters, Sisters and Brothers, Ain’t we everyone?

Now it’s all Badgers and Mushrooms!

  • Kate says:

Ha! I remember my brother showing me that his freshman year of college. To this day I have those “mushroom, MushRoooom!” moments. Weird how some things get stuck in your head for years.

  • Erin says:

::laughs out loud:: Oh, God. No I’m going to have that stuck in my head all freakin’ day.

  • eg says:

Now we can all have it stuck in our heads….

Thanks — I must go email this onward. : )

    e

  • Alyce says:

A snake a snake ooooooooooh its a snake

seriously going to have that in my head all day

  • Ruth says:

Oh, wow. Thanks for THAT. I’m going to have to go to hampsterdance.com for a minute, just to debrief.

And while I’m thrilled that you’ve started recapping again, geez, why’d it have to be that show? Ally McBeal makes me itchy.

  • Gabbiana says:

The badger song is my official “it’s cold and why isn’t the bus here yet?” distraction, mostly because I can’t sing it without hopping from one foot to the other and at least then I can imagine that I’m warm.

  • Sars says:

Ruth: Me too, but she’s bearable most of the time on this show, and easy pickings when she’s not.

  • Snarkmeister says:

Oh god. Not the badger song. I made the mistake of showing it to my 8-yr-old son once (because of course I had the song stuck in my head and was singing it) and he BEGS me now to go to the “mushroom” website. He’d have it as his permanent soundtrack if he could.

  • Amy says:

Hee. I freakin’ love the badgers. If you get sick of the badgers, mushrooms, and snakes, I highly recommend the Lions and Tigers in Kenya.

  • Kate2 says:

heee! I forgot about that one. I discovered the ultimate anti-song-in-your-head song, but maybe it only works for me. Whenever I get an annoying song in my head, I counter it with the ridiculous, also annoying late 70’s (or maybe early 80’s, I’m not sure) Dr. Pepper jingle.

    oohhhhh, I’m a pepper, you’re a pepper, he’s a pepper she’s a pepper! wouldn’t you like to be a pepper too? be a pepper! driiiink, Dr. Pepper!

Yeah I don’t know. But for me, it works every time.
If that’s stuck in your head now, too, I guess… uh… You’re welcome. heh.

  • Nicole says:

This whole mushroom thing, not half as addictive as the bananaphone thing. One of my favorite things is to sing the bananaphone song in the elevators at work so loud that people can hear through the doors as I pass each floor. Fun!

  • Rachel says:

Ok, so don’t know how I managed to live all of my almost 25 years without having heard the bananaphone song – because, love it. Also, just to put in a bid for another amazing video that made the college mass e-mail rounds- It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

  • Margaret in Colorado says:

    Ma-na-ma-na
    Doo doo doo doo doo
    Ma na ma na…

    (Did that help y’all?)

  • MANGO MANGO MANGO!!! That oughtta get the ma-na-ma0na & mushrooms out of your heads!

    (personally, I LOVE the badgers!)

  • Ariel says:

Haha, you’ve got to check out the Harry Potter version: http://thefifthdistrict.com/potter/

  • LynzM says:

Margaret! Ma na ma na, doo doo, do do doo… OMG. Thanks :P

Sars, the badger website is like crack for three-year-olds, totally mezmerizing.

Have you heard the code monkey song yet? That’s fantastic, I had it in my head forever yesterday….

  • Leigh says:

When I was watching it, I was thinking “How bizarre. This doesn’t seem like it would be easy to get stuck in my head…”

Yeah. Thanks. Thanks a LOT :D

(Especially since later tonight, I am guaranteed to complain about it to my husband, who will do what he always does when I say I have a song stuck in my head, which is start loudly singing “WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!!! Who! Who! Who!” which…GAAAHHHH!)

  • Marie says:

And I give you llama, llama duck. http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama.php

Oh, and just ’cause it is funny. http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/kikkoman-e.php

  • Nomie says:

    BADGER BADGER

The campus center at my college had a sort of porch-roof structure on one side with an expanse of brick wall above it. Some daring soul climbed up there and chalked badgers, a mushroom, a snake, and the words to the “song” all over the wall. This anonymous person became my new hero. :D

  • Krissa says:

Leigh…I’m kind of in love with your husband for that. Figuratively, of course.

  • Ashley says:

anyone else ever get into the ‘numa numa’ video? i think you can find it on albinoblacksheep, but if not just google ‘numa numa’. not animated, but still hilarious.

  • Nicole says:

I had bananaphone as my ringtone for a while and it was awesome.

  • Veera says:

And if you want little variety with your badgers, check out the LOTR version and the football version.
