The N.C. Double Scoop: Your Champion

Submitted by on September 25, 2008 – 12:35 PM62 Comments

Ice-cream fans cast more than three thousand votes, and while vanilla got out to an initial lead, mint chocolate chip surged back for the win, 56% to 44%.

TN and The Grub Report thank you for all the votes, comments, and support, and we urge you to watch this space for the N. Cereal A.A. (“now with 100% fewer punched babies!”), coming soon.

  • cayenne says:

Yay MCC! I would be dancing around my office right now, but I have a glass door in a high-traffic hallway and a strong sensitivity of my own dignity, so…no.

Later, there will be Snoopy dancing.

  • Margaret in CO says:

I am so disheartened…(going to the corner to console Vanilla…)

  • Snarkmeister says:

Cereal? “I like ceeeeeereal.” “I like potatoes.” Awesome! Can’t wait for to vote for the wildly unpopular Grape Nuts.

  • Amie says:

@Margaret, ditto. I think tonight I will have to bust out the mini (single serving) Haagen Dazs vanilla tub I’ve had on reserve, in solidarity!

  • Jaybird says:

    I CURSE you, MCC, O devil’s confection.

  • Tarn says:

I have a meeting downtown today which happens to be right close to a Baskin-Robbins. Have to get myself a nice healthy scoop of MCC to celebrate! Woooo!

  • Jules says:

    Ewww.

  • ebeth says:

Cayenne: if I weren’t already married and if I actually knew you, I’d want to marry you for referencing the Snoopy dance. And for celebrating the greatness that is MCC.

  • liz says:

YES!!! I had mint choco chip going all the way from round 1!! Let’s hear it for my childhood favourite! Although I haven’t had it in a long time . . . I’m sorry mint choco chip! I will come back to you! Soon! As soon as I can find you in a pint & not gallon size . . . .

  • Annie says:

YES! It’s been my favorite ice cream since I was about three years old, and has never let me down. I hope no babies get punched as a result of this outcome.

  • Nilda A says:

    MCC? Eh.

Will console myself with a sundae made of dulce de leche, strawberry, and vanilla.

  • Hellcat13 says:

@cayenne: I’m working at home today, so I’ll Snoopy dance for you. YAY MCC!! I’m going to the grocery store to buy a celebratory pint tonight.

  • LizPres says:

YIPPEE! I couldn’t BELIEVE plain old vanilla was in the lead when the competitor was mint! chocolate! chip! I also couldn’t believe two such boring (even though one is my favorite) flavors were the finalists. Either way, go MCC. Also, please include Basic 4 in your cereal competition. Worst named cereal ever, but yummiest ever.

  • Linda says:

    NOOOOOOOOO!

Poor vanilla. Doomed to be unappreciated. Vanilla is the NPH of ice cream.

  • tulip says:

Yay!! I’m heading out for a pint of MCC right now!

  • JanBrady says:

    Yuck.

  • De says:

Wait, did I read that right? The “N. Cereal A.A.”, as in breakfast cereal? Woo hoo! So excited!

  • Hollie says:

Bought a pint of Sticky Toffee Pudding in protest….

  • Edith says:

yeay for mcc!!! it’s been my favorite for almost FORTY years.

  • Krissa says:

This was rigged – RIGGED, I say – although really, there’s no “losing” with ice cream, so…here’s to delicious!

  • Ruby says:

Boooo! I actively dislike mint chocolate chip. I’m joining Glark in the baby-punching corner.

  • Beadgirl says:

Woohoo! My absolute favorite flavor ever! You just have to deal, Glark.

  • JeniMull says:

Awww – yay for MCC! I love them both, but MCC is my sentimental favorite. I’m glad it pulled it out.

  • Tara says:

woooooooo! I might go get some to celebrate.

  • Trish says:

Hmm, having voted for vanilla (twice), I may have to check this out and have my own personal taste-test tonight. See if the polls are really right! :D

  • Sharon says:

YAY! MCC is my all time favorite!

  • Laura says:

Yessss! My childhood and perennial favorite! Celebratory scoops all around!

*hides her newborn grand-niece from Glark*

  • KellyEMca says:

Now I know what I’m having for lunch.

  • jive turkey says:

Dude. I’m bummed vanilla didn’t win, but it’s going to get PERSONAL about cereal. I can’t wait.

  • Jenny says:

Poor, poor vanilla. You’ll always be number one in my heart!

But I do have to say I’m most excited for the N. Cereal A.A.–I have a feeling that could turn into a dog fight. I know I am fiercely loyal to my breakfast cereals (esp. those I’ve eaten since childhood).

  • Lori says:

Come here, vanilla … let me make you feel all better … [glorping sounds] Ahhhh!

  • Bree says:

    :( poor vanilla always #2

  • Rachel says:

YEAH, BABY! I knew MCC would make it. Vanilla is good stuff, no lie, but MCC is happiness in frozen cream form.

I’m going to go hide the baby right now!

  • Tracey says:

Yay! I think I’ll make some MCC this weekend to celebrate.

  • Liesl says:

But Vanilla is so multipurpose, so comforting, so universal…and SO good on pie!

  • Kat says:

    YAY. Thats my most-often-ordered!!

  • Grace says:

Margaret in CO, I’ll join you there…and I’ll bring hot fudge.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    @Snarkmeister: Nice Foster’s Home reference!

    [menacingly] “I. Like. CEREAL.”

  • cayenne says:

Liesl, you can use MCC on pie if you want to. Try it on chocolate mousse or chocolate cream pie – nummies. Or it can _be_ a pie: make a mud pie out of it, mixed with super-dark chocolate and – wait for it – vanilla. They play quite nicely together. Especially in a chocolate wafer crust. I must go home & eat ice cream now.

  • Janna says:

I’m going to find a baby to punch right now. I hope you’re all happy.

  • kw says:

I love vanilla on a warm chocolate brownie but a mint chocolate chip shake?–YUM! I keep fighting the urge to go get one….

  • jill (tx) says:

Brackets are fun, but they can’t possibly be scientific, because there’s no way on earth MCC is the best or most favoritest flavor of all. That’s not a world I can inhabit.

  • Driver B says:

    N. Cereal AA MUST have Cracklin’ Oat Bran – looks like cat food, tastes like delicious!

I’m a little sad for vanilla, but MCC was a worthy opponent.

  • Keckler says:

Humph. I will join the crowd that will be having vanilla for dessert tonight!

  • Pam says:

Well, I like both really, but I am still surprised MCC took the whole thing. The N. Cereal A.A. should be much kinder to my waistline than this poll! Go Raisin Bran Crunch! (And yes, that is intended to be a not-so-subliminal message to Sars to include that in the brackets).

  • aw yeah!!! way to rally, MCC!

I’m looking forward to the cereal championships (and I have newfound faith the it won’t be, like, corn flakes ftw).

  • Jo says:

This makes my day. I was so worried for MCC.

  • juliette says:

@Snarkmeister & Sars: I love you both. Not even little kids get it when I pull out the “I like ceeeereal” reference. I mean, COME ON, KIDS!!

    I like chocolate milk!

  • Molly says:

What an upset! I don’t like MCC but I’m so happy to be surprised. Vanilla is great, but I don’t think it should be the champion of all ice creams.

Cereal! Awesome! I have way too much fun with this stuff. I sadly missed out on the cheese fun because, well, I don’t eat a lot of cheese, but cereal! That’s where I’m a Viking!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

The brackets aren’t supposed to be scientific; they’re supposed to be fun.

Raisin Bran Crunch will be included. FOR ME TO POOP ON.
