Your N Candy AA Chocolate Champion

Submitted by on May 6, 2010 – 12:18 PM21 Comments

The Cups ranneth over Twix with 70% of the vote.

Stay tuned for the classic cocktails bracket (a.k.a. “The NC Make It A Double”), under construction as we speak — and the non-chocolate-candy version after that!

Oh my GOD I never even contemplated a cocktails bracket! This just keeps getting better and better! I must be sure that I am an educated voter! So many exclamation points!

  • Hellcat13 says:

No shocker (I think many of us called the RPBC win way back at 64), but I forgot you poor Americans only get TWO cups in your packages. We get three up here in Canada.

  • Mike says:

While I’m still a little upset that no M&M version won, I’m happy to RPBC win. I like them almost as much. Almost.

  • StillAnotherKate says:

    Cocktails?? NOW we’re talking!

  • K. says:

I’m sad that Twix lost because I can’t eat peanut butter, but I can see how PBC would win – when I tell people I’m allergic to nuts, the first thing many people do is lament that I can’t eat PBCs.

I am beyond excited for the booze bracket!

  • Amalthea says:

Hellcat13: Americans only get TWO cups? Seriously? I am feeling ridiculously patriotic right now. *runs to change into red and white*

  • Julia says:

K – I am, too, and my Machiavellian 8-year-old self used to choose RPBC’s as much as possible during Halloween trick-or-treating SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE of how much other people were obsessed with them, and what a strong bargaining position that gave me during the post-rounds trading session. A single PBC could be traded for a fistful of pixie stix, five or more blow pops, or, on one memorable occasion, TWO full-sized Milky Ways.

  • ferretrick says:

Hmm…I’m actually not much of a cocktail drinker. Guess I’ll just have to run out and sample so I can make informed choices.

Does Bloody Mary count as a cocktail? Because, if so Bloody Mary’s for the win!

  • Carrie Ann says:

THREE?! So, what, Canada already has socialized medicine, and now this? What do we get? When is it OUR turn? I can’t help but think that maybe if Canada would stop being so selfish with its healthcare and its extra Reese’s, the world would be a more equal and peaceful place. The way I see it, it’s sort of your duty as a citizen of the world to share those RPBCs with the rest of us, OK?

  • Elizabeth says:

Oooh, cocktails! That made me sit up and take notice. While I would define my stance during NCandyAA as “distant but amused bystander”, I believe for NCMIAD I will be more along the lines of “elbows will be thrown participant”. Can’t wait!

  • robin says:

While the RPBC is not my personal favorite, I’m OK with the win. As a nondrinker, I’ll sit out the Cocktail Hour and watch the contest from the sidelines; does that make me a Designated Reader? And I eagerly await the non-chocolate candy brackets. Slo-Mo, Cowtail, and Jelly Belly, oh, my!

  • Nilda A says:

Congrats to Reese’s. And I am so looking forward to the Cocktails where I imagine a lot of funny drinking stories by TN faithful will be shared.

  • Kyle says:

I predict PBC-like dominance from the classic dry martini in the cocktails bracket, but then I’m kind of a purist when it comes to booze. Still, I mean, how can some Sex-and-the-City-nonsense like a cosmopolitan hope to take down the one and only drink of James Bond?

  • cayenne says:

Yay for RPBC and the cosmic synergy of crowning a candy that looks like a crown. Yeah, that’s all I can come up with today, sorry.

On to the cocktails! Most timely to have this one during patio season so we can test out the unknown ones in appropriate environments. No blue ones, though, please.

  • patricia says:

@Kyle: I think the one thing these brackets have shown fairly convincingly is that they are a popularity contest, and many people like their drinks fruity and pretty colored. Not me, particularly; I’m more of a gin and tonic kind of girl myself. And thinking about the bracket and gin and tonics (gins and tonic?) made me remember one of my favorite Douglas Adams passages:

    http://www.ginntonic.org/

Anyway, beyond gratuitous Douglas Adams links, I am so excited about the cocktails bracket! Although, voting on all the candy made me want more candy, and voting on all the booze…well, it may not be pretty.

  • Kriesa says:

Congrats to RPbC, although I’m not a huge fan.

I’m looking forward to reading the comments on the N Cocktails AA. I’m more of a beer or wine kind of girl (with maybe a Margarita or two if I go to a Mexican restaurant). Mainly because it seems like every time I order a cocktail, it turns out to have rum it it. I will have to take notes on which cocktails are not made with rum and are not cloyingly sweet.

  • Jenny says:

Yeah for the cocktails bracket! But a non-chocolate candy bracket? Why bother with candy if there is no chocolate?

  • Glark says:

    Damn straight. Lucky fucking babies.

  • Sandman says:

    Pan-Galactic Gargleblaster for the win!

  • slices says:

Finally! A category in which I will surely have an opinion on each and every entrant!

  • Jess F says:

@Julia – I used to do this as well, with PBCs and Snickers. I loathe peanut butter, and like peanuts only slightly more, but those things were barter GOLD! I could get all the 3 Musketeers and Milky Ways I ever wanted!

Pbbbbt to PBCs winning. Peanut butter sucks.
