Save The Day: April 14

Submitted by on April 14, 2011 – 8:56 AM12 Comments

8:30 PM update

$88,772 — great work! Keep it up — remembering that I’ve got gift codes and a tote bag to give away ’til midnight ET tonight (scroll down for the deets)!

As Mr. Popeil liked to say…but wait, there’s more! All donations to the tie-dye project I mentioned the other day are eligible to win a shirt tie-dyed by the kids! How cute is that? Teacher Kim is really trying to make this work, so let’s turn her first-graders loose with some Rit before Burning Man gets here and it’s too late!

Almost halfway home, super-friends. Keep those capes a-flutter.

9 AM update

$86,961 as of this writing — hell of a job so far, Nation. Hell of a job.

And I’ve got two headlines of great news! The first: reader Emily C. has generously offered five (5) $25 DC gift codes as today’s mini-prize! Just donate to any project anywhere on the TN leaderboard and forward me your receipt by midnight ET, and you could win one of them! You could also win a vintage “Bartlet in 2002” MBTV tote bag (thanks, Molly D.!) if you donate to any leaderboard project having to do with politics — civics, Model UN, whatever you like! Make a convincing argument when you forward that receipt, and I will totally consider it! (Sort those projects by name and genre right here!)

The second: a friend of TN and DC has thrown in a match: $1,500 when we get to 95K! It’s not far away, and today, it is rumored, is payday. We got some ground to make up here, captains, so let’s drive to 95.

Woohoo, let’s go Nation!! Wonder who won the starbucks card from Vanessa yesterday, could really use that right now :)

Anyway, our giving page has another list of featured projects and for everyone funded $10 will be donated to the leaderboard which gets us that much closer to 95K. Todays featured projects are for Never Before Funded teachers, and one project that has 11 hours left…go over and check it out and help the leaderboard get a boost! http://tomatohelper.wordpress.com/

Helping kids get their own copy of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”? I am SO there!

  • AnnD says:

FIRE! FIRE! HELP! 1 project expires in 10 hours! 5 more in the next few days. We are trying hard not to let any teacher’s project expire during this campaign if it meets certain criteria of donors and contributions. Please help us if you can!

PETS4KIDS GP – We have added back SPECIAL NEEDS projects to this page after hearing from many people. Check out the new project added today!

@AnnD – I polished off two of them this morning. Roller coasters and video cameras? What’s not to love? And I drained my Donors Choose account–a great way to start the day!

  • Shannon in CA says:

In honor of my hangover, I completed 2 projects this morning. Hopefully the warm fuzzies will help calm my stomach & soothe my head.

  • AnnD says:

Thank you to the FIRE! FIRE! supporters this morning for saving the day! YOU ROCK!

NEWS FLASH! The Tomato Nation has helped fund MANY FLORIDA & TENNESSEE PROJECTS over the last 14 days. THEY ARE STARTING TO PAY IT FORWARD by donating to projects with various gift codes this morning. THANK YOU!

  • Erin W says:

That picture makes me laugh, because–as many of you will remember–2002 was an extremely contentious election, and it was the first time ever that my mom decided to break away from the Republican influence of my father and vote Democrat. When he specifically asked who she voted for, she said “Bartlet” and changed the subject.

  • Annie F. says:

I think I missed a step…I donated the other day, but thought as long as I did it through the TN site it would enroll me in the raffles? Is that not the case?

    Thanks!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

It depends on the mini-prize; sometimes you need to forward a receipt, but if you donate through the Superpage, I get your receipt automatically. (And you’re also automatically entered for the main prizing.)

  • Grace says:

The Amazing Grace Fund just put money on 25 projects between the FIRE! FIRE!, T-Nation Jeopardy <$50 and Pets4Kids giving pages in honor of their page supporters. Many projects are now less $25 to complete. Please check them & HELP FINISH OFF A PROJECT for a deserving classroom.

  • Alison says:

Ann – I’m wondering if you’d be willing to add my project to your Special Needs page. It’s listed on the site as a Literacy project but it is a Special Needs class. The students and I are working hard to get some ereaders so they can “check out” books from the local library and individualize their independent reading materials. Their enthusiasm grows with every new donation but we can still use a lot of help to get it funded!

Wow…that was super fast! Thanks to everyone we will be tie dyeing away soon! Donors…let me know what size shirt you want for your kid-made cuteness!
