TN Fall Contest: 54, 40, And Fight

Submitted by on October 3, 2007 – 4:00 PM16 Comments

As of this writing, we’re at 54 percent on the second bonus round. It defies belief, truly.

My current plan: I’ll let you guys polish this bonus round off on your own. Once you hit 50K, remember, you’re into me and Claire Danes for 5K each, which will get plowed into DC projects — so I’ll have to put together yet another round of projects, which I’m going to make a niiiiiiiice fat one, and we can see how much progress we make. I’ll keep you posted on the exact parameters there.

The point is: don’t worry, if we knock this 10K off, we’re not done.

BEING AWESOME.

woo! hopefully i’m the first to comment. i’m so proud to be a part of this super awesomeness!! and, quite frankly, cannot wait to see the tomato costume.

  • Annie says:

Yay! Since I haven’t been able to donate yet!

Wasn’t the original goal $50,000 by Oct. 31?

  • Karen says:

Somethin’ hinky with one of the options–“Kindergarten Authors and Illustrators” says it’s expired, but if you go into the project page you see it was only posted a week or two ago and doesn’t expire until May 2008.

I can’t see a place to ask the DC folks–any ideas?

  • Stephanie says:

Can I put in an official request for the next round to be made up primarily of “About to Expire” projects?

    Saving the world with AWESOMENESS.

  • JIC says:

Sars, can we/will we see what DC projects you and Ms. Danes funded with your magnificent 5K donations?

  • Sars says:

@JIC: Yeah, I figured I’d put together a heeyuge list of projects for the next round and apply my 5K to that. I don’t know how Ms. Danes wants to do it; maybe she’ll give it as gift certs? Stay tuned, we’ll see.

  • Dorinda says:

I got to donate money toward purchasing owl poop for dissection. OWL POOP, YOU GUYS. This totally rules! (Okay, I know it’s technically not poop, but rather indigestible material disgorged from the gizzard. And soon, these kids will know that too!)

  • Becs says:

Also I know if there are specific suggestions we should just email you, but can we get a few more Washington DC ones? I’ve already kicked in once, but later on this month I’ll be able to give again, and I love helping local projects.

  • Rebecca says:

56% when I donated. Had to hurry this time, last year Sars had already shaved her head before I got to donate.

  • Jed says:

58% at 3:30 CDT. You know the money’s cool, but what gets me all misty-eyed is the fact that we’re having a positive impact on the education of over 4500 kids. You guys are AWESOME!!

  • Jenny says:

Wheee, I just donated for the owl poop, too! And the school is a few minutes away from me, right near my neighborhood.
This whole thing has made my week, it’s such a cool thing to be a part of! Thanks, Sars!

  • Jeanette says:

I donated for the owl poop too, but as an anthropology student, I must say, that has nothing to do with archaeology. But hey, it’s still fun.

  • Laura says:

Karen: Click on the link on the kindergarden project page called “project cost report PDF”. That says the project has been fully funded. I think we are discovering some glitches in the system. The same thing happened in the last round with the ballroom dancing.

  • Elizabeth from Chicago says:

Very weird . . . has anyone else seen the original $35K challenge to have lost about $600? I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the “Expired” Virtual History project, or if a project fell off the list, or what; but then again, my computer may just be acting up.

In other news: 66% at 4:25 Central time. Two-thirds of the way there!

  • Sars says:

Again, I assume the subtractions on already-completed projects and challenges are some sort of DC back-end snafu — but I’ve emailed Zach about it. We covered the spread; don’t worry about it overly.
