TN Fall Contest: Good News And Bad News

Submitted by on October 24, 2007 – 4:16 PM39 Comments

Bad news first: Claire Danes had hoped to attend the tomato dance, but play-related commitments won’t permit that. Which is a little bit disappointing on the one hand, but on the other hand, I was kind of dreading explaining to Ms. Danes from under my leafy little hat that MSCL is pretty much the reason I work on the internet. Because “awkward” and “awesome” start with the same two letters, and occasionally share the same headspace (see: David, Larry), but an in-person hazing of the famous with that concept isn’t entirely necessary.

But the good news is very very good: Ms. Danes is contributing another $2,500 to the contest!

As of this writing? Almost 95K. Huge thanks of awesomeyness to $ and the Dollarians, to Claire Danes, to our fantastic prize-donors (check the contest page, top right, for the latest additions), most especially to all of you, and last but not least…

…to these guys.

Because every donation counts. Even…the little ones. Awwwww.

  • Go Amie says:

Claire Danes is officially my favorite actress. “Stardust” put her close, but all this awesomeness? Yeah, she left the competition in the dust!

  • be right back says:

    And now: almost 98%! Wow!

  • klm says:

OK, I just popped over to the site, and it’s almost $98K now. Is that with or without the Danes and $ contributions? I’m just wondering how fast I have to move if I want to give a little more?

Also: $98K. Just had to say that again.

  • Katie says:

    98%!! I’m so excited!
That is so frakkin cool that Claire Danes donated more money!

  • Julie says:

    98% Oh my holy awesome.

  • Amanda Cournoyer says:

Holy crap! 98%! What is that, boys and girls? That’s right: awesome.

  • E. says:

    98%! 98%!

  • Margaret in CO says:

    Claire Danes is a GODDESS!!!!
We all just rock, ya know?

  • Sars says:

@klm: I’m not sure, honestly. I think $ is done with his donations but I’ll have to get back to you on that.

    Awesome.

  • Jed says:

Dood! $1880 shy of $100k with 7 days to spare. That’s very nearly six round figures of AWESOMENESS! (Well, 5 round figures and one skinny stick-looking one…)

  • Karen says:

    5 more projects – Awesome!
(What will you put your powers towards next?)

  • BetsyD says:

    I’m a little teary now.

  • Michelle says:

Huh. So that ruins the crap out of the “everybody meet at Claire Danes” plan. Whatever shall we do now?

Nonetheless… we’re going to bust straight through six figures. And we’re gonna hand Colbert his *ass*.

  • Sarah says:

    1600 bucks to go! Wahoo!

  • FloridaErin says:

Holy crap, people! And I mean HOLY CRAP! There’s almost too much awesomeness to go around!!

We’re so going to do it!

  • Cij says:

I’ve decided that *next* year for the drive, we should somehow try to involve Ms. Danes again. What a wonderful person she clearly is. Sars, if we raise 100K next year, do you think we can convince her dance the mscl post kiss dance with you?

And everyone? You’re more awesome than captain awesome….you’re Admiral Awesomes!

  • autiger23 says:

I just remembered that I get paid tomorrow night. Tossed in $50 more and we’re at $1008 to go! Whoo-hoo!

  • autiger23 says:

    $958! 99%!

  • Kate H says:

Less than $1000 to go! Squeeee!

  • autiger23 says:

Also? $100,000?? Stephen Colbert is your bitch and needs to say so on the show tomorrow night when it hits the mark(if not tonight). Hee!

PS- Jon and Stephen are my boyfriends, but he totally needs to own up to his bitch status in this. :D

  • A^3 says:

So close! Don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep with all the excitement!

  • Sars says:

    A couple notes here:

    1. Once again the projects aren’t adding up to the goal remainder. I don’t know why that keeps happening; math isn’t THAT hard. Any road, focus on the goal remainder, not what the remaining projects add up to.

    2. Yes, we’ll keep going after 100K. There is more matching fundiness in our future; stay tuned for details.

    3. One hundred thousand dollars is a lot of fucking money. Words can’t describe the pride I feel to be among you.

  • KristinaXI says:

Um what the hell? We were at 90K when I left work! (I…cannot believe I just wrote that. Sweet mother of all that is holy.) I wanted to donate again when I get paid on Friday (screw rent!) but at this rate 100K will have been reached around 3 tomorrow morning. Could we PLEASE put the awesome on hold for 24 hours? Please?

Ahem. I meant, this is all freakishly awesome. Damnit.

  • Katherine says:

Damn shame Colbert is on reruns this week, he’s going to eventually have to own up to the giant, tomato-sized beating he’s getting right now.
    Also, 99%! Awesome!

  • Erin says:

So glad to help inch this one towards 100%. Claire Danes and Sars both rock, and rock hard.

    Awesome.

  • Dude, $748 to goal. SEVEN HUNDRED FORTY-EIGHT! Colbert is going DOWN!

  • Holy mother of Awesome, it’s hit 100%! That is a mind-boggling amount of money. And kids. And Awesome. Wow.

  • Anna says:

Congratulations on reaching $100,034! I’ll still come back even if the awesome has already been broughten!

  • Karen says:

    $100,034!!!

    Wow. Just… wow.

  • Meg says:

    Yay! Over 100k!!

  • Jen says:

    100%! 100K! Awesome!

  • Kate H says:

4 am PST…I’m up feeding my four month old daughter and had to check and: we did it, guys! Even my fatigue can’t dim the pride I feel to have been a part of this. So unbelievably awesome.

  • Kari says:

    WOOHOO!!!

    100%!!!!

I can’t believe how fast that last little bit went.

  • A^3 says:

    And? Done!

I did not stay awake to keep refreshing the page periodically to see the thermometer reach the top, but I checked first thing this morning.

    Totally. Awesome. 100%

  • Katie says:

We did it!! I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it…be this is freaking AWESOME!!

    AWESOME!

  • Danielle says:

Oh my God, y’all. We did it! *faints*

Not that I doubted that we would, but… 100. Thousand. American. Muthaforkin’. Dollars. Dudes!

  • Ashley in Brooklyn says:

    Holy. Freaking. Awesome.

$100,059. As of 8:20 this morning.

    …And I don’t get paid till tomorrow!

    Absolutely amazing

  • Elizabeth from Chicago says:

Wow! Over $100,000 as of this morning, and we’re not even to payday yet.

And also there’s something up with a lot of the projects in that they’re OVERFUNDED. As in, there’s about $3500 in extra money hiding in those projects that isn’t being counted toward the overall goal. I’ve emailed Zach three times about it, so DonorsChoose does know.

How about putting the challenge limit up to $111,000 (or even higher, if you think we can get it done)? That would be enough to let everyone who was waiting on payday get their licks in, and it would easily absorb the extra funds from the projects that have too much money on ’em.

One hundred thousand dollars! Go us!

  • Clairezilla says:

Can someone contact Colbert’s producers and let them know that we handed it to him?

I think he should have to dress up like a bear and have Sars on his show.
