TN Fall Contest: The Day In Review

Submitted by on October 10, 2007 – 8:21 PM62 Comments

As of this writing, you’re 75 percent of the way towards the 100K goal. In dollars, that’s $75,000. Seventy. Five. Thousand. Dollars. In ten days.

That is quite a sum of awe.

I’ve continued to add projects over the last couple of days, so check in now and then and see if I’ve posted anything else that speaks to you. The way the page is currently laid out, we have some completed projects sitting on top of the list; I’ll try to get that reshuffled so it’s easier to see what’s left to fund.

And in dancing-tomato news…

I had a nice conversation with Mary at Akron Design & Costume Co., an outfit I hereby heartily recommend for all your long-distance stunt-costuming needs, and as of this afternoon, I have rented the tomato outfit.

Barring any fit horrors, I plan to conduct the tomato dance Friday November 2 in Rockefeller Plaza, time TBA (but I’m shooting for lunchtime). Stay tuned for further updates, but in the meantime, it is now for you to decide: do I wear the leafy hat that comes with the costume? Or do I dye my hair green for the day? And if it’s the latter, please suggest a temporary dye/hair mascara so I don’t have to pants around with bleach and Manic Panic.

…As you (awesomely) were.

I vote for the hat as well. The only green wigs that I’ve seen are fluorescent green, and I just can’t picture that looking anything but completely unnatural with the tomato costume. And plus, you’ve done things with your hair in the past for our benefit; I’d rather keep this about the tomato costume (awesome) and not about the hair.

And if the hat is awful, then I’d say take up CJRW’s offer to knit a nifty one for you. :)

  • Laura says:

Hat, it might be chilly that day, don’t want you catchin’ your death out there…

  • KAB says:

NOOOOO! Not Nov. 2! Dammit. I’ll be out of town and I was so looking forward to being there. Stupid brother’s stupid wedding in stupid Jamaica. Thank God for YouTube, I guess.

And I’m totally on the hat bandwagon.

  • Kizz says:

I’d like to see the green hair dye ’cause it’s a nice tie in with the previous head-shaving. Barring that Mighty Girl Maggie Mason just bought a crazy spiky green vintage swim cap or or something that might bring just the right touch to the costume.

  • Liz says:

    Hat.

If a wig is desired and the right color can’t be found, you can always dye a cheapish blonde one. As an added bonus, you can use whatever you need to (paint, fabric dye, etc.,) since it never needs to come out.

  • Karen says:

Yeah, I gotta go with both the dyed hair AND the leafy hat. I mean, it’s the very least you can do for $100K in donations, right?

And I will SO be there. I’ve already put it on my calendar so that I don’t schedule any conflicting meetings. New digital camera, too! Happy happy, joy joy!

  • DensityDuck says:

    Don’t dye your hair.

I’m thinking more along the lines of facepaint…

  • Ali says:

Hat. Or RED hair/wig with hat. But hat all the way. 100% Hat. Hat for teh win.

  • Shonda says:

Well, my goodness. I am moving to Philadelphia in a few days, and may just have to catch the train to see you in all of your glory. To see my favorite-ist writer up close and personal and in a tomato suit? Oh soooo sweet.

    Spray-on color. Definitely.

  • Cady says:

There seems to be a hat consensus! I am of the hat-plus-green-hair mind myself, although I kind of like the idea of red-hair-plus-hat. Then it’s like you really ARE A tomato!

But I see no one has suggested a HAIR COLORING OPTION yet. There’s this goop by Sweet Georgia Brown that is basically shiny green schmutz for your hair, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore. But now Manic Panic has a temporary hair dye that they say washes right out: http://manicpanic.com/dhgels.html
You can see a kid modeling the green right there on the site. It doesn’t look too neon. And they have red too!

  • Heather says:

I’m on board with the hat. Its more in keeping with the Angela……tradition (?)

  • Jen says:

Huh. Oddly enough, though I live in Utah, I’ll be in New York that day and hadn’t yet figured out anything to do. Great! And I vote for the hat.
