Right now: 29K.

UM, THAT’S AWESOME.

(I can type the word “awesome” so quickly now, you wouldn’t believe.)

So, on pace to hit 30K shortly.   And at 40K, we get a matching burst of synchronicity from $ and the Mysterians.   Let’s do it!

Let’s also take a moment to thank all the teachers who thought up these projects and took the time to post them to DC; the hardworking and courteous DC staff; and each other.   Thank you, everyone.

Weekend mini-prize coming soon.   In the meantime: What is awesome, Alex?

It’s not just giving I’ve been doing. I’ve contacted friends who are teachers in Philadelphia and told them about Donors Choose. Because I can’t think of kids who’s needs are more desperate than those in some of these city schools.

I think of the cool projects my friend the science teacher and his partner used to dream up. There is so little for classroom use. So they made marble cupcakes and the kids took core samples with straws for a geology class. There was also mining chocolate chip walnut cookies, using coffee stirrers, toothpicks, or paperclips. They had faux money to use to “buy” their mining implements and then reported on how successful they were depending on the implements used (the more expensive paper clips unwound were the best tools).

How neat is it that the “funded” proposals start on page 12! Holy crap, we’re plowing through projects like nobody’s business.

  • Kat says:

As a teacher that has had a project funded this cycle, THANK YOU! I cannot express to you all how much it means to know that people are willing to support the work we do.

Also, I’m looking forward to seeing Sars in a tomato costume at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
