“…Oh, balls”: My new gig at Yahoo! Shine Sport

Submitted by on August 27, 2012 – 9:37 AM7 Comments

Yahoo! Shine recently launched a Sport vertical, which is awesome, and put me in charge of it, which is even awesomer. Please step over there and various regular features like Breakfast Trey, a fairly regular morning wrap-up of three sports stories of note; dig my creative swear substitutes on Out With The Crowd, this time featuring FloridaErin and the Detroit Tigers; and — this one’s important — throw your hat in for our fantasy-football league. I would super-love to have some of you guys in on this! Problem is, time is short: you gotta send me a funny story today (shine_sport at yahoo dot com) because we draft tomorrow PM. (You can just post it here if you’d like. Here’s mine: I was out of phone battery at a Jersey Turnpike rest stop and borrowed a stranger’s iPhone to change out my kicker. Stranger: “No problem, miss!” Stranger’s wife: “…Weirdos.”)

So! That’s what’s up. But seriously: fantasy football. You really don’t have to know squatola about the NFL; Lord knows I didn’t when Gen sucked me into the fantasy thing. And you can’t make fun of the punfortunate names I picked for Beston’s and my teams if you aren’t in the league, so. (Fine, fine, Beston’s is “Beston Show.” …I’m so sorry.)

    Congrats on the new gig!

Do you have any tips on setting up an RSS feed just for the Shine Sports content? Because it looks like I can do all Yahoo Sports content or all Shine content, but those are both super high volume feeds, and if I look just for you in the Contributor widget it only gives me one post from the Pets blog.

Thanks! And I don’t know how to do that, but let me look into it.

Yay! I’ve thought for years and years that the Internet is stupid for not paying you to write on sports. Congrats!

I stink at all fantasy sports. I think I get too sentimental about my players, and refuse to trade or sub them out. I’d be a super lousy manager. Fantasy Survivor? I rule. Fantasy movie draft? Ditto. Sports? Massive suckage.

I’m always giddy for ladies to get good sports-adjacent gigs, there are so few. So I’m especially thrilled that one of my favorites has landed one. Congrats mucho!

  • Leigh in CO says:

    Sweet gig, many congratulations!

  • Jane says:

Attica said it all perfectly – congrats!

  • Bo says:

Awesome! Hockey fantasy turned out to be stressful for me. Now the only sports fantasy I engage in involves naked players. Well, and coaches and GMs because I’m they’re more age appropriate.
