Hi Nation! Hope you can help — Googling led to some very strange (and scary) results.

I saw a movie in the late 1980s or early 1990s. The main characters were a small group of men who were con artists (I think) with at least one of them involved with stage magic or movie special effects.

They need to trick the antagonist — something to do with a Very Important Folder of Papers. So, naturally, they make him think he’s been kidnapped by aliens. No idea why.

So, they show him a guy “floating” using his stage tricks, show him some people dressed as aliens, and put him inside a fake UFO and successfully trick him into thinking it’s all real.

They have the UFO on the back of a truck and drive it down the highway under a tarp to make him think it’s moving. At one point they get pulled over by a cop and almost exposed.

Searching for “fake UFO,” “fake aliens,” “con artists + aliens” etc. has led to some very strange links, including a video of someone who claimed to see a REAL flying saucer on the back of a truck on the highway.

Anyone know what movie this is?

Thank you!

K

  • David says:

Is it “The Hit Man“? That’s the only English-language result for an IMDB keyword search for “fake-alien”, and sounds pretty spot-on.

  • Allie says:

That sounds amazing. The only chord it struck with me is an episode of Leverage, though.

  • Megster says:

I can’t help you with the movie, but the ‘flying saucer on a truck’ was the X-47B unmanned aircraft being transported from CA to MD.

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

My first reaction was the F/X movies with Bryan Brown, but that’s just because of the whole–F/X thing.

If you figure it out, let us know!

Letter Writer here – thank you David, I think that’s it! Woot! Nation rocks! Hmm, now to try and get my hands on a copy…
