I’m looking for some help finding a nightdress for my mom.
She refuses to get rid of the one she’s had for many years (even though it has several holes) because she can’t find one she likes to replace it. She’s 75 years old, widowed, conservative (so nothing too sheer/too short/whatever). She’s pretty picky when it comes to nightdresses — it has to be lightweight, short-sleeved, and slippery – from what I can tell the slippery part is the most important — she hates anything like cotton or flannelette because she can’t move around freely in bed.
I also need to find this from a site that ships to Canada — I found a perfect one on serenecomfort.com but as far as I can tell they only ship within the U.S.
Suggestions for fabrics/brands/websites would be welcome!

On http://www.vermontcountrystore.com there are a few nightgowns that seem to fit the bill (the “Miss Elaine brand). The company does ship outside the US, but it appears you have to call them to arrange that.

They’re the only rayon gowns I’ve ever seen that aren’t seethrough. My grandmas, my mother, and I all like them. They’ve got long, short, sleeveless, and sized all the way up for big girls like me :)

At any rate, I went the extra mile (pat pat on my back) and asked their customer service online if they shipped to Canada. Apparently you cannot order online and ship to Canada, but you can with their toll-free number.
I think if you were to websurf you might look for “nylon tricot.”

I buy these types of nighties for my mom too. She is in her 80’s, and loves the slippery ones, although she gives in and wears flannel in the winter. Vermont Country Store is a good resource, but Sears has reasonably priced ones as well, and their website says they ship to Canada (no clue what that adds to the cost.)

I swear by bamboo fabrics for sleeping as I live in the subtropics and need something that’s lightweight, breathable, and not clingy.
Bamboomo has a few styles of nightshirt and they do appear to ship to Canada:

The photos make the fabric look sort of cottony, but I don’t find that to be the case. If none of the styles there work, look for bamboo viscose or bamboo-silk blends.
Awwwww, my grandmother ALWAYS wore Shadowline gowns. I can highly recommend them, or at least I could back then. Not sure about the quality now, but 15-20 years ago, they were great. Lasted forever, below the knee, very comfortable.
This is going to sound weird, but I get a ton of nightgown/slip type garments from a vintage clothes dealer at an antique festival every year. I probably have ten or 15 of them. They’re generally polyester and slippery and feel great to wear.
herroom.com carries the Shadowline brand and ships to Canada. They carry lots of other brands too, so might be worth a look?
Winter Silks has some nice gowns. With the right care, silk is sturdy and will last.

http://www.staplesonline.com/ is a Canadian firm that makes silk undergarments and sleepware. I have a couple of their camisoles and love them. My mom has some nightgowns (amongst other things. This company was her discovery.)
