Proshai, Nikolai

Submitted by on October 21, 2008 – 1:04 PM37 Comments

I am so very very happy to announce that Nikolai has just left for his new digs.   Leila and Matt will take excellent care of him (starting with the bath that I, without a tag-team member on the premises, could not administer…sorry, guys.   If it’s any comfort, the pillow he’s stinking up in the picture isn’t the only one he loved up today…aw).

Thank you so much to everyone who offered food, gas money, a stop on the Underground Cat-road, and kind words.   Here’s to you, and to happy endings.

Niko: I miss you already.   Be a good little lion and write if you get work.

I’m getting all misty here at work now…

  • Marie says:

Aww, how cute. Sto Lat, little Nikolai!

I’m working on my happy ending for little Smushy! I get to see where she is health wise after 2…

If I wasn’t married, I’d be crazy animal lady. Marie = Sucker.

  • tulip says:

Yay! I’m so glad for him. I am a wee bit misty that he couldn’t come home with me but so glad you found someone close! Hugs to all!

  • Cij says:

Awww….sniffle. I love Happy Beginnings. And I hope we get updates on our feline czar from time to time.

    Congratulations Leila and Matt!

Also, Unground Cat-road? (more sniffling and a hee!)

  • Lib says:

Awww, he looks so happy in that picture. It will be nice to remember him that way.

Hopefully Leila will send pictures when he gets all settled in!

  • Ellen says:

It warms my cold shriveled heart to read such a story, and Nikolai is a toofless cutie.

Bless you for taking in this kitty, for getting him to the vet and for helping to find a loving home for him. My (also rescued) cat Harold Lloyd thanks you too, and purrs in your general direction.

  • BSD says:

GODDAMMIT, WHY IS MY CUBICLE SO DAMN DUSTY???

  • Princess Leah says:

Oh, yes! The little lion of love embarks on a new life.

Snif! does not begin to cover it.

Looking forward to periodic updates, if at all possible. This sweet boy now looms large in my family’s imagination…

  • Christy says:

Sars, you’re my hero! And Leila and Matt – you guys are heroes too!

  • Hollie says:

Thank you for “re-homing” him, and thank Leila and Matt for making room for the exiled royalty at their place!

  • Linda says:

So your tally for this month is ten thousand students and a cat. Got it.

  • Andrea says:

He looks so much like my girl Shelby. She’s a bit older. She had her own ordeal last year when she got out and we couldn’t find her for two frickin’ months. Gave up hope, and then I found/caught her…skin and bones, maggots in her fur, so so so sad. Happily after rushing her to the ER, fluids, shaving, much food and love, she is perfect and happy and fat and furry again.

I hope Niko has as happy and beautiful a future ahead of him after your rescue and his new parents’ kindness.

  • JeniMull says:

Darn allergies… where are my tissues?

  • Jean says:

    Yay!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Linda: That’s my new band name! Or “A Hundred Grand And A Tsar.”

  • Jen P says:

YAYAYYYYYYYY!!!!! **sniffle** My kitty and I send our best wishes for a happy housewarming for Nikolai.

  • KPP says:

Yay! Three cheers for Sars and Leila and Matt! Good luck with the bath (I do not envy the bath, I’ve tried to bath a cat…shudder…)!

  • Natalie says:

Nikolai is one lucky kitty. I hope we get updates from time to time. :)

  • Molly says:

Are Leila and Matt readers or just very lucky NY residents? And will they be keeping his name?

  • Pupkiss says:

I love this photo. He looks so content, like he’s settled in for the evening and is just watching a little Letterman before he turns off the lights and calls it a day.

I’m glad you picked him up, I’m glad Leila and Matt have room for him, I’m glad to see that here are whole legions of people who do care and who do want to make a difference….and now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to find a hanky.

@Andrea, you’re not helping me with that story, over here. Poor kitten! *sniffle*

  • Jen M. says:

I am not crying, there is something in my eye.

  • RJ says:

    Whoo-hooo!!! A happy ending!!!!

  • La BellaDonna says:

    Or even “Sars and Tsars.”

Runny eyes, due to allergies. But I’m happy for the new family.

  • Jenny says:

Stupid seasonal allergies making my eyes water. Who knew that could happen in late October.

I’m so, so happy the little Tsar found a new palace. And if Matt and Leila wanted to share any stories about giving him a bath or how he’s doing, I would love to hear updates. I feel like he’s “our” cat now–all of Tomato Nation’s. *sniff*

  • JennB says:

    First single: “Have Met/Was Bitch.”

  • April says:

Yay!! Niko found a home! He reminds me of my cat somehow…maybe in the way he just looks like he totally owns that pillow. He is a one eyed shelter cat I adopted four years ago. At eight, he’s JUST NOW stopped playing all day and has settled down a little. When I called his foster mom to update him on how he had settled into his new home, she said “He’s really mellowed out since he lost the eye,” making me wonder…..what the heck was he like before??
Anyways, I hope Leila and Matt will at least show us a picture of Niko post-bath and let us know how he’s doing. I’m so happy for all three of them!

  • Sharon says:

SO glad he found a home! I hope Leila and Matt send updates. He is just too cute, sitting on the pillow with his princely self!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Molly: I know Leila popped up in the comments but I don’t know if she is/they are regular readers. I believe that they’re keeping the name.

I just got an update: Nikolai is up on some shelves, surveying his domain/sleeping. So, sounds like we’re 5 by 5.

  • Jules says:

I wonder if the underground cat-road will make it to the history books?

This TN experience certainly illustrates what can be accomplished when many individuals, doing their own little part, join with others doing the same. Little glimmers like this – the wilingness of strangers to join together to save a homeless kitty – are enough to maintain my belief in the goodness of the human spirit. Now I feel all warn inside and proud to be a small part of this community. ::sniff sniff::

Add me to the list who wants periodic updates on Niko. We are all sort of invested now aren’t we?

  • Hollie says:

I got a little dust in my eye… thanks to Leila and Matt, and I hope we get updates.

  • Princess Leah says:

Invested we are, and a better investment we could not make.

  • autiger23 says:

Big kudos to Sars, but also to Leila and Matt! Thanks for your awesomeness!

  • Lisa says:

Awwww! I’m so happy for Nikolai! Good luck with the bath, Leila and Matt, you guys are awesome! My partner and I will look forward to updates too, if it is possible. Sars, Nikolai doesn’t know what he owes to you. My heart grew two sizes today. :)

  • The offer stands for a lovely set of cat toys, Leila and Matt! Please contact me and let me know where to post them off to!

  • Laura says:

Between raising tens of thousands of dollars and rehoming a cat, I am continually awesomed by the power of the Tomato Nation. It makes me feel patriotic to be one of us :)

  • Margaret in CO says:

What great news to start my day today! Heroes abound! Awwww…
