Bet Red, Bet Road: Update

All righty: A.C. tomato is still on for Friday, August 20. Current base of operations is the Trump Taj Mahal.

Complications include

  • a furniture delivery that day between 10 AM and 2 PM (i.e., “at 1:58 PM”)
  • casino security’s gentle but firm refusal to allow the tomato, or filming of any sort, on the casino floor
  • the A/V guru probably not arriving in A.C. until at least 9 PM.

The second thing is not hopeless — by presenting myself in person and pulling a series of boo-boo-kitty faces adjacent to the subject of unfortunate schoolchildren, perhaps I can guilt the supervisor on duty into at least doing something fun with us on camera — but I don’t want to wind up in a casino jail, so if it’s a giant foam tomato you seek, your best bet is the boardwalk.

At the moment, it looks like we’ll do the bulk of the filming on Saturday. I can’t predict my whens and wheres very well yet, but things should solidify as tomorrow goes along. Mmmm, vague-y!

To track our progress in and out of costume, hop on TN’s Twitter feed, which you can find right here. We’ll send status reports and pictures throughout the day and evening.

Aww, man, the Taj isn’t nearly as cool as Caesar’s, but oh well. I guess we’ll try to hunt for you–any way we could get some sort of Twitter…thing? Update? (Sorry, no clue about Twitter.) I’ll only be driving 40 minutes, but my kid is desperate to see The Tomato Lady!

Like I said, the best way to track my location is to follow TN’s Twitter feed, which is linked both above and at the top of the homepage.

Caesar’s would be a lot “cooler” if they could keep their central AC from breaking down. Twice was enough with that shit. Sorry.

Why oh why am I on the opposite coast?? Post video as soon as tomato-ly possible!

  • Emma says:

If they won’t let you go full Tomato inside the casino, can you at least arrange to wear red, with the little tomato-stem hat? Or, I suppose you could wear just about any combination of colors, and claim to be an heirloom tomato.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

I can definitely wear the hat.

I am bummed I cannot be there! But based on a previous trip, I recommend going to the bars that have ice-blocks embedded in the bar to keep your drink cold. I think there’s one in Harrah’s and one in Bally’s. (If you’re lucky, at Harrah’s you will also be able to snag free appetizers from a freaky casino team morale-boosting party that you have inadvertently crashed. You probably shouldn’t plan on that, but it’s worth a try.)
