In Which The New Donors Choose Office Makes It Quite Dusty In My Own
You guys are a work of art. Lookit!
From the lovely Katie B. at DC:
We just moved into new offices that we’re so excited about. We had partners donate construction supplies, furniture and…chalk artwork!
Attached is a picture of The Playground, our common space that features chalk murals. Also attached is a picture of the “Thank You Wall” mural, which includes an homage to Tomato Nation.
We wanted to share and let you know how much we appreciate you and your community. You guys have played such a key mobilization role in making us who we are. So…THANK YOU!
I mean, where to start. How about here: that’s alllll you guys, so congratulations, but it’s worth noting, while honking ultra-casually into a tissue, that this is one of DonorsChoose.org’s great qualities: making everyone involved feel as though they matter.
I will also add, with all the respect in the world and the understanding that the order is no doubt COMPLETELY random, that we are above Oprah. Hee.
Anyway: great job, again, some more. And I happen to have a few gift cards left over from Promato, so let’s reverse-birthday-month it up in here: you suggest projects I might like (one per comment), 10 (ten) randomly selected peeps get a DonorsChoose.org gift code. Selection takes place March 21.

I was torn between this one and one about fifth graders who don’t have a printer to print the newspaper they are working on. Ultimately, I chose this one because it involves lots of elements of the writing process — creating (nonfiction and poetry!), publishing, and the library (yay!).

Speaking of Promato – are there any stories and pictures from the party? I would have loved to be there.
I’m moving next week and found this project in my new ‘hood:

This teacher has every “Babysitter’s Club” book from her youth in her classroom. So she’s awesome. But I can see where a kid might like to read something a bit more recent, so I’d love to see them reach their goal.
TN is also above Ham Rove, I see. Like a currant glaze!
Aw! Now it’s all dusty in MY office.
So many projects to choose from, but this classroom needs pencils and paper in addition to reading materials.

This teacher really likes to get students involved. For several years he has had a teaching relationship with a classroom in Germany. They send letters, exchange foods, and pictures. Mr. D has even visited the classroom in Germany. This really makes learning so much fun. I am hoping you will consider his project.

Books for Babies: Sharing Our Love of Reading
The books are to give to elementary school students who welcome a new baby to the family. The “big brother or sister” gets a book to share their love of reading with their new sibling!

I’ve been really into reducing plastic & disposables lately, it’s another thing (along with finance) that I wish I’d learned more about as a kid. Here’s a school trying to install a water bottle filling station to avoid plastic water bottle waste after successfully removing soft drinks from the school.

I just funded projects from 3 local schools to completion – thank you for the push to donate!
Ok… so I admit that I’ve been playing MegaMillions lately. When the jackpot is at 300 million plus, I just can’t help myself.
Is it ok to say that I’m ALMOST as excited to see the results of this drawing?
Lucky winner of the drawing, here. Wanted to report back that my husband was having a rough day so I let him choose the project that would receive the donation. Sadly, it’s nothing to do with actual tomatoes … but it gets this classroom a little bit closer to their goal of using technology to help kids with special needs. Yay!

THANKS, Sars, for letting us help make a difference.
Sars, will there be a contest this year? I’ve been saving up my account credits, but if there won’t be a contest, I’ll go ahead and spend them over the summer so teachers are ready for the fall.
@Dsayko, probably — but it would happen after school starts. I don’t know if that helps you in your decision-making.
