“I wrote 63 songs this year. They’re all about Jeter.” Just kidding. The game we love, the players we hate, and more.

Helping public schools, winning prizes, sending a crazy lady in a tomato costume out in public.

Stories, True and Otherwise

Monologues, travelogues, fiction, and fart humor. And hens. Don’t forget the hens.

“Second prize is TWO years as Yankee manager!”

Finally getting around to my daily baseball-blog reads…

Bronx Banter on the possible line of succession (Davey JOHNSON?Wow).

Deadspin’s liveblog of the Torre press conference earlier.

Fire Joe Morgan makes fun of Buster Olney. You can’t go wrong with an Irabu reference.

Good piece by Larry Mahnken on Replacement Level Yankees Blog.My only quibble is the by-now-inevitable mention of the “Clueless Joe” headline that greeted Torre’s hiring in ’95 — and Mahnken’s take on it: “It wasn’t that Torre couldn’t do a good job — it was that the job was going to drive him insane.”I’m…pretty sure it was that Torre couldn’t do a good job, actually. His managerial record in the NL: 894-1003.How much of this was his “fault,” I can’t say, and the job was likely to drive him insane, but you can’t really parse that headline as “Torre didn’t know what he was getting into.”It’s George Steinbrenner.French people know what that means, never mind a guy who’d been in baseball since the ’50s.
