Comedian Doug Benson gave me a glimmer of hope for last season’s Last Comic Standing (until he got eliminated), but he’s a regular on Best Week Ever, and now he’s got his dope-umentary out: Super High Me. The Onion’s AV Club has a lengthy interview with him here.
An auction of one of Shoeless Joe Jackson’s famous “Black Betsy” bats — the only one known to exist — is expected to net $200,000 at least, which made me laugh, because I named my last car, a busted-down black Jetta, “Black Betsy.” And when the time came to sell her, I dumped her for parts…for $200.

Doug Benson is so awesome!
Looking forward to the next season of Last Comic Standing– keep your eye out for DC-local Aparna Nancherla, she really really rocks!!!
I am so out of the loop, I didn’t even know Last Comic Standing was still on! But I do love Doug Benson. I was super bummed that we missed Super High Me when it was playing in LA. It played weird nights because the theater is usually a gay film theater and some nights are for the hassidic crowd only. Pretty great venue to see a stoner flick.
Repeating my comment from the AV Club:
Matt Belknap, from aspecialthing.com, recorded three of the “Doug Benson’s Interruption” performances back in 2006 (one with Paul F. Tompkins as guest interrupter). You can download the podcasts here:

I found them pretty entertaining. I enjoyed the other ones as well (but I haven’t listened to the Jim Gaffigan one yet).
I had a black Jetta named “Betty” once. I refuse to apologize for being the kind of dork who names her cars. Thanks for the validation Sars :)
