Dear Sarah,
Hoping you or the readers can help me before I become even more out of shape…
After my son was born in March 2005, I Tivoed some yoga programs that I would do for 20 minutes during his naps. Sure helped me lose the baby weight! The best one was a guy who hard dark hair and was in his 30s or early 40s. He had a somewhat sarcastic demeanor with the people doing yoga with him, and pop, classic soul, and disco music populated the soundtrack. It was a great workout, too.
Three Tivos later, that recording is gone forever, and I can’t find a trace of my snarky dance music yoga guy online, no matter what I search for. Any help?
Wannabe yogi
Dear Yog,
That sounds quite rad, actually — but alas, it’s not either of the yoga peeps I have on DVD here at my house (Rodney Yee, and that Yoga Zone lady who looks like Michael Michele).
Readers? Any idea who/what this is?

It sounds like Steve Ross, on Oxygen. Their website says the show is called “Inhale”. Bad pun, good show. He’s definitely a good way to lose the baby weight. Happy yoking!
If he was greasy and really into himself it was Bryan Kest. He’s such a used car salesman, but I really like his workouts for some reason.
I get yoga videos on Netflix, then when I’m tired of them, I just exchange for a new one. Its a pretty good deal.
Good luck!
inhale with steve ross on oxygen
I was also going to suggest Steve Ross. Is that show even on anymore?
If it’s Steve Ross, Inhale comes on at 6am every weekday on Oxygen, at least in my market (DC, Comcast)
A quick check on the Oxygen website indicates Inhale is on Mondays through Thursdays at 6:00 a.m.
Inhale is on the Oxygen network at 5:00am in the Central Time Zone.
I actually did not know yoga was good for weight loss. I’m still carrying most of the 70 lbs. I gained w/my first son, and we have DirecTV, so maybe Ross wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
His show, I mean.
I’m totally Tivoing that right now! I need to lose some serious poundage.
Sorry, don’t have a helpful link to the yoga guy. This is a helpful link to what Cyd Charisse’s tummy looked like, in “Singin’ in the Rain”, two months after she had a baby. http://tinyurl.com/6j5dwd.
Okay, I admit I don’t know whether it’s encouraging, for ordinary mortals, or just like news from a different planet.
Yeah, but she was a professional dancer. You could probably bounce a quarter of her stomach an hour after she gave birth.
I really miss yoga. I was just starting to get the hang of it at a local studio when they changed their billing structure, and since I don’t have 900.00 lying around for six months of classes that was the end of that. I tried it at home but kept hurting myself. I need an instructor.
I don’t know if it is the same person you are talking about, but I second the recommendation for Bryan Kest’s workouts. The Power Yoga series is dated clothing-wise and the man *is* rather enamored of himself, but the moves haven’t changed and, as an added bonus, practically everything the guy says on the tape would be dirty in any other context.
Just wanted to post a “thank you!” for the Steve Ross/Inhale recommendation. I, too, am carrying around excess baby weight (25 pounds, and he’s almost 7 months old!) but since the home gym is next to his bedroom, naptime workouts aren’t very feasible because of the noise. I’ve been looking for (well, thinking of looking for!) a yoga/pilates solution to my problem and I’m excited about giving this a try.
Not quite what you asked for but Ellen Barrett has some great DVDs (fat burning pilates is one) that are broken down into segments that can be done separately or together. I have all of her Crunch ones and she also has her own line of pilates/yoga DVDs. Not too perky or chatty and doesn’t make you want to strangle her, plus she’s easy to follow or modify if you need too.
@polly: it was also fairly common knowledge that Cyd had an eating disorder, (and probably body dysmorphia, too) so I’d caution against using her as the ideal
Your description definitely sounds like Inhale. I have tried it a few times and enjoyed it a lot, but I want to chime in with susan on this one – I am a huge Ellen Barrett disciple. Her Crunch yoga/pilates blend would be a great place to start if you’ve never tried any other pilates workouts and like the more yoga based routines. I have almost all of her dvds and they are different enough that you can do one every day and get a good variety of moves and cardio. She has been my main source of exercise for the past couple of years. Along with adjusting my eating habits (less food, better food) she has helped me lose 80 pounds. My body is toned for the first time in my life and I feel great. I seriously thank her every time I come to the end of a dvd!! Dorky, but true. Good luck and I hope you find what you’re looking for!
Here to add to the Inhale love. There was a small time when Oxygen took the show off their network, and there was a petition to get it back on the air. (And um, I signed it.) They stopped making these years ago, I believe, and so they’re running the same like, twelve, constantly. But I still do them, even though I know the ten-song soundtrack by heart. And I still laugh every time he makes a crack at Patrick, as if I hadn’t heard it before. I think it’s Steve Ross’ “I know you don’t wanna be doing this, so let’s get this over with and not take ourselves too seriously while we do it” attitude that keeps me motivated.
