Cookie dough vs. black raspberry/Oregon blackberry. My bias here is obvious — thanks to my mom’s quart-a-week habit back in the winter of ’73, when you cut me I bleed purple — but cookie dough is really really good.I salute black raz for fending off the AmeriCone in the last round, but it’s enough of a niche preference that I think its fun is over.Cookie dough for the decisive (but not embarrassing) win.
Butter pecan vs. peppermint. Nothing against peppermint; it’s just not a flavor I would make a point of ordering, and not everyone likes a minty dessert (cut to: Glark, punching a baby).Then again, not everyone likes a nutty dessert, but butter pecan is a classic, and I predict that it prevails here.
Java chip vs. salted caramel. If salted caramel didn’t have its passionate adherents before — and it had many more than I’d anticipated — it for sure earned more followers after readers (and Keckler) sung its praises in the last round.Java chip is good shit, but it’s going to have to fight.Too close to call.
French vanilla vs. chocolate. I don’t care for plain French vanilla.Something about the color is…it just looks kind of crusty to me.A scoop of it on something else is okay, but by itself: bleh.Or maybe meh.”Mleh,” I guess.Plain chocolate isn’t my favorite either, but it’s my pick in this face-off, and probably the majority of voters’ as well.
Cookies and cream vs. fudge ripple. Mmm, fudge ripple: just enough going on, without overwhelming the palate.That’s a minority view, though, so cookies and cream wins going away, which I have no real problem with.
Sticky toffee pudding vs. Heath Bar Crunch. Name recognition carries the day, I bet, and Heath Bar moves to the next round.
Key lime pie vs. mint chocolate chip. Wow, tough call — the intra-Gang-Green match-up is two fantastic flavors with very different appeals.I’ll vote the reliable old institutional-paint brick o’ mint choc, but I don’t underestimate the power of crust (or of Glark punching a nurseryful of babies).MCC, but barely.
Chocolate chip vs. rainbow sherbet. Hmm.I like both; I love neither.When it comes to sherbet, I tend to prefer a mono-flavored offering, and the rainbow verzh is one of those office-party, pleases-everyone-but-thrills-no-one flavors that doesn’t inspire much excitement.Chocolate chip wins it.

French vanilla is OK but it can be way too eggy (shudder). Chocolate is always dependable. And it’s chocolate.

Chocolate vs. French Vanilla? Hard choices early. Although as I’ve gotten older, FV has become my favorite. Simplicity and richness together.
Am also challenged by the Sticky Toffee Pudding vs. Heath Bar Crunch. But the crunchiness helped me decide for HBC. And do they still make STP? It was originally supposed to be a limited edition flavor.
If the rainbow sherbet could be decidedly low on Raspberry, or could be the nice orange/lemon/lime rainbow, I would have voted differently.

My husband and I just had a long conversation about the which MCC (Green or white?) and who makes it, because we love us some Key Lime, but man, MCC is an old friend you just can’t let go. SO HARD!
My husband would also like to point out his dismay in the lack of Superman or Blue Moon in these brackets. I’m just saying. :-)
I tried Sticky Toffee Pudding this weekend for the first time after hearing the rave reviews from others here. That stuff is seriously like crack in cold form.

After the first round I had to break down and buy some of the Salted Caramel this weekend. Oh my, where have you been all my life!
And French Vanilla? Best enjoyed in a pretzel cone – especially if you enjoy the salty sweetness of flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter and chocolate.

One time in Texas I said pee-can, and this woman turned to me with a disgusted expression and said, “PEE-CAN?! Where you from?” (For those of you who don’t know, “Where you from?” doesn’t mean “Where do you reside?” it means “I have noticed that you are different from me, and I don’t like it.”)
I am probably, like, the one person for whom chocolate vs. vanilla didn’t require a second of thought. I hate chocolate ice cream unilaterally – and a good vanilla is unbeatable. Mmmm, vanilla frozen custard….
I had salted caramel for the first time a couple months ago, and MAN, that is good. Go salted caramel, go!!
Crap. Forgot to add that it’s p’CAHN, at least here in Albany, a town built entirely on one big old pecan plantation, pretty much.
I’m from Oklahoma and I say Pah-Cahn. But, I know people who say Pee-Can also. So, I guess it just depends on who you are.
But, I’d say the majority of people say Pah-Cahn these days. Pee-Can is more of a small-town pronunciation of it, IMO.
I am on a “look nice in a bridesmaid’s dress” slim-down at the moment, but I had to try sticky toffee pudding, especially since it (and all the feature HD flavors) was on sale at my market for $3.49. I love spicy-sweet-caramel-y things, and wow, this was great. I only had two spoonfuls and have vowed to make it my treat each day this week (my plan allows for 140-160 cals in treats per day, which means that two spoonfuls is about all I get) but it is SO worth it. Yum yum yum. I like Heath Bar Crunch too, but Sticky Toffee Pudding has it beat. If the sale is still going on when I go grocery shopping next week, I’m going to try Fleur de Sel Caramel next.
I grew up in Philly and say p’KAHN, but I know people (some in my family) who say both PEE-can and pee-CAN, so.
Coming in late, and probably irrelevantly, but…we definitely say PEEcan in Canada. At least everywhere in Canada I’ve been…which isn’t everywhere. Hmm.
I voted French Vanilla, but I do agree with poster above about the dangers of egginess. I mean, custard is rich, you know? So…just be careful with that stuff, is all I’m saying.
