C’mon, Get Happy
Read it in one day. I got the feeling from the Behind The Music on David Cassidy, who came off as twelve-steppily full of himself all “I’m a survivor!”, that the book would be more of the same — and it kind of was. The prologue, in which he managed to misspell the word “Partridge” (…I know), was really defensive and “if you want dish, too bad, this is about my journey,” and I really would have liked more scoop on Susan Dey instead of one paragraph about how thin she got, that kind of thing. But it’s a lightning-fast read, and his huge self-regard is amusing even though his attempts to be Hip Dad with the cursing are sort of sad…and if you’ve seen the BTM, this isn’t necessary. Still, I’m glad I read it, and the pictures, OH MY GOD, DORK, they’re so awesome. Oh, and the part where Don Johnson DKs him at a cocktail party is hilarious. I’m not a Don fan but that was brilliant. (3/16/05)
