Make Donors Choose the People’s Choice
You don’t need an Amex to vote, and it could mean 200K for Donors Choose. DC founder Charles Best breaks it down:
As you can see, we are literally neck-and-neck for 1st place. (Go to the Education category, and if you don’t see the vote tallies, just cast your vote and you will then be presented with the real-time rankings.) … The campaign is more than halfway to its conclusion on May 23; if you were to rally a few hundred votes, it would, in all likelihood, decide the outcome. Winning would mean $200,000, all of which would go to classroom projects in low-income communities.
Voting in the contest no longer requires an American Express card. It simply requires 30 seconds of time, or 10 seconds if you use Facebook Connect to register. People can vote every week, and in our dream world, you would rally people to vote once during the next 10 days, and once more in the last two days if needed.
Making the difference here is easy, and free! If you’ve got five minutes at lunchtime today to sign up, Charles and I would both really appreciate it.
And if you can’t think of a good Mother’s Day gift, consider a donation to DC in Mom’s name.
Done! And it looks like Donors Choose is pulling ahead by 1% of the vote so far. Go Nation!!
voted. Love Donors Choose. Yay!
Done!
Poo! I signed up just to vote, but for some reason I can’t. It just doesn’t let me select anything. Is anyone else having this problem?
Oh Bunting. Where would we be without you and this nation of yours?
Thanks so much for this post, and thanks to all the TN readers for voting. As if y’all haven’t done enough.
Much love to all.
Year Up, you’re going down! The TomNat Crew is gonna git ya.
Wait, is that not in the spirit of things?
Done.
@birdie – The problem with not being able to select anything is that in the sign-up you may not have checked the terms and conditions box and said yes to joining the members project. Check the Settings tab of your profile on the site, and if, in the rightmost column under Projects, “Opt out of Members Project” is checked, that’s your problem. I think you can fix it from there. I just made the same mistake myself.
Thanks for this! I just remembered that I have some Donors Choose gift cards to use – I received some in April for my birthday. YaY!
My vote has been cast! :)
Voted! Thanks for letting us know about this!
It’s great to see Donors Choose pulling ahead. Thanks, Tomato Nation!
Voted!
@Victoria – blessing upon your house! That was the problem. Thank you so much
It’s Monday, and that means you can vote again (for DonorsChoose, please) in the Member’s Project listed above. DC has slipped to second place, by one percentage point. I’m hoping the awesome Tomato Nation can come through to right this wrong!
It is the last week to vote!! Vote again (for Donors Choose)
Donor’s Choose won!!
Hello Tomato Nation,
First let me thank you for your support of my classroom in the past! This is why I’m reaching out to you all again. I teach in Baltimore City. This year we’re opening our first AP Language and Composition class. I’m lucky enough to be teaching it– and we’re going for broke. It’s my goal that my students are able to score a 3 or higher and gain college credit on the AP Exam in May. The one thing holding us back is that most of my students have below grade reading levels– even our honors students. Much of what my kids will have to read is, at the beginning of the year, incomprehensible to them because they have such a vocabulary deficit. In order to help them quickly decipher their at-home reading, I’ve written a proposal for handheld electronic dictionary/thesauruses that they’ll be able to use for homework and classwork. My school has few resources– and that includes dictionaries and thesauruses. For a classroom of 30, I only ever have 5 dictionaries and 0 thesauruses. Even a pledge of $5 would help my classroom work towards achieving a passing score on the AP Exam. This is truly a project that could change the course of my children’s lives.
Thank you so much for your time!
