The readers have spoken! Our first TN Read-Along book is Going In Circles, by Pamela Ribon. All y’all Kindlings will be happy to know that it’s available in that format.
I will open a discussion thread Thursday, June 24…provided the author has not had me assassinated for using that photo.
A few things to keep in mind:
- the thread will remain open pretty much forever, so if you haven’t finished the book by June 24, you can always chime in later;
- you can chime in without having finished the book, too, if you’d like, but
- once the thread opens, the entire book is fair game, so the spoiler-averse should wait until they’ve finished, and
- while you don’t have to have read the whole book, you do need to try to read the whole thread before posting.
I may tweak the format and timing for next time, depending on how TNR-A1 goes.
Also, Pamie is kindly making herself available for a live chat on Wednesday 30 June at 8 PM ET. Watch this space for details!
As for the runners-up in the poll, I’ll put the top finishers back into the next poll — and then throw a whole new group of books at you. I’ve got V.C. Andrews, I’ve got a history of gin, I’ve got graphic novels and JFK conspiracy theories…lots to choose from.

Yay! I’ve read the book already so I’m psyched for the discussion. I’m a huge fan of all of Pamie’s books.

Fourthing the yays since I finished the book like 3 weeks ago WHAT. I can’t wait to hear what other people have to say about it. But if you haven’t read it yet…you might not want to do so while you’re pmsing, and maybe a little raw from your own drama.

I’m not sad about this at all. I wish they had made this derby book into a movie instead of Whip It. No one would be shocked that most derby girls refer to derby as “what I do instead of therapy”
Fifthing Karen. I love Pamie’s work and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I was not disappointed!
It’s also available on iBooks for, I think, $7.99. It was so inexpensive I bought it in addition to the print version and alternated between the two. Highly recommended.
I will definitely pick this up next week (or whenever the bank account rebounds) and dive in! I’ve always had a secret hankering to roller derby, so I can live vicariously through the printed page.
One more vote that this book is truly, truly excellent. I cried quite a lot, but in the good way. In the way that’s like you’re dustbusting some of your own detritus through somebody else’s writing. Very, very highly recommended. Please don’t be concerned that it’s disguised shoe fiction, if you don’t care for shoe fiction, because it absolutely isn’t.
(Shoe fiction = the kind of book for women that almost always has a shoe on the cover.)
I’m about 5 chapters in, and ooh, Linda, that description is perfect.
I’m mentally drafting things to say to Pamie already. Girlfriend hits me where I live.
I must say as a guy, that GiC is so not chick-lit. It made me LOL several times. And I passed it on to my Dad when I was done.
@Linda I’m looking forward to what you’ll have to say about GiC – your and Marc’s riffs today on Moby Dick had me clamping down on my jaw to keep from barking with laughter at work.
This is awesome. Two weeks ago, just prior to a whirlwind trip to California to be with a friend who needed me for a day, I saw GiC at Walmart of all places (for $5.97!) and grabbed a copy, thinking I’d read it on the plane.
Instead, I ended up somehow losing the bag holding the book as well as a bunch of expensive haircare products between the checkout line and getting home. I am so happy I have an excuse to get another copy and read it anyway.
Still hoping to win Pamie’s book club contest through her publisher… my friends kind of freaked over the idea of a book + roller derby tie-in. :)
I’m in – picked up the book today at my local B&N, after reading the first chapter as an amazon preview. It’s sounding pretty good!
Downloaded Going in Circles onto my Nook after a) noticing that it was the first book in the TN Read-Along, b) realizing I’ve read Pamie’s other 2 books and therefore should read this one, and c) finding out it was only $7.99. Woohoo!
I’ve been away from TN for ages and I come back and it’s Pamie time! Woo!

I got this from my local library last week and read the entire thing between PDX and LAX last weekend. Which I found somewhat appropriate, actually. Can’t wait to discuss!
And it’s definitely not chick-lit. Or if it must be called that, it’s the opposite of chick-lit lite. It’s like chick-lit hardcore, except without nasty, icky connotations.

Crap! I’m on a plane during Pamie’s live chat on June 30, so I’ll miss it. I’m about 80 pages into the book, so I need to get going to finish by Thursday.
I saw her last week in DC and there were actual tears of laughter.
