TN Read-Along #10: Whatever Happened to Pudding Pops

Submitted by on June 28, 2011 – 8:52 AM33 Comments

please note revised date and time for our live author chat

Our next read-along book is Whatever Happened to Pudding Pops: The Lost Toys, Tastes & Trends of the ’70s and ’80s, by Gael Fashingbauer Cooper and Brian Bellmont.

It’s available in paperback and Kindle editions, and we’ll welcome at least one of the authors for a live chat on Wednesday 29 June at 8:30 PM ET, so watch this space for details!

I have an extra paperback copy I can offer to one lucky commenter; just throw your hat in the ring in the comments below (make sure your email address is a valid one). I’ll pick a winner by 10 PM ET tonight (7 June).

I’d love to win this. Surprisingly, the Toronto library system only has 3 copies of this in the system, all still on order, so I wouldn’t be able to follow along with the read-along.

  • Alison says:

I was just talking to my husband about pudding pops this weekend! I was thinking of trying to make some at home…

  • Laura says:

OK, now I am wishing for a pudding pop. They were good, man. :)

  • MaryAnne says:

I’d also love a chance to win … the Mid-Columbia Library system in southeastern Washington state has NO copies listed, not even on order! (Not surprising, but depressing …)

  • Julie says:

    Good choice for the read-along!

  • Isis Uptown says:

Consider my hat in the ring. It’s a very chic cloche, even.

  • Andrea says:

@ Alison, making them at home is totally worth it. I used to make them with all my campers as an end of camp treat and they taste exactly like I remember!

  • Marie says:

I’ll throw my hat in as well. Mmm, puddin’ pops….

  • Hellcat13 says:

I’d love to win a copy! It was a sad, sad day when my work firewall blocked PCJM.

  • Leah in SoCal says:

I don’t even wear hats, but I’ll toss one in the ring for this!

  • Juju says:

Oooh pudding pops! I would get impatient dissolving the thin layer of ice encasing the creamy goodness beneath. Mum invariably bought the variety pack and then became annoyed when nobody wanted the vanilla pops.

  • Jem says:

    Pudding Pops are gone?

  • Stephanie says:

Yay! This was my vote. I’m a sucker for nostalgia.

  • Beadgirl says:

So . . . what did happen to Pudding Pops? Because they were my most favorite frozen treat ever. Will the book tell me? Even if not, I’d love to win a copy.

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

The author’s reading this here in Seattle today, but I wrenched the shit out of my ankle coming home from work last night, so I can’t go. When I can hobble down to the bookstore I will join the rest of the Nation on the printed page, though!

  • c8h10n4o2 says:

My hat is a giant sun hat, because Damn. It’s bloody hot in the midwest.

  • camelama says:

Just fondly recalled Pudding POps last night, while we were shopping for ice cream! What good timing. :)

  • JeniMull says:

Toss my hat in the ring, please!

Amazing that I was also just thinking about these and talking about making some with my kiddos.

  • Kari says:

I love Pop Culture Junk Mail and would be thrilled to win a copy of this!

  • Shannon in CA says:

Tossing my hat in as well.

  • Erin says:

Ooh! Hat in the ring! I just heard Gael (I think) on NPR over the weekend and was very intrigued!

  • Rachel says:

Hi ho! Hat in the ring! Summer reading time. :)

  • Kate says:

I’d love to win a copy!

  • JenB says:

Yum! I mean, yay! This was my vote too.

  • Lynda says:

Aww, now I want a pudding pop! (And I didn’t even know they were gone. What’s that song lyric: ‘don’t know what you want ’til it’s gone’…)

Have I got that song stuck in anybody else’s brain now?

    *evil laugh*

  • Daisy says:

My library doesn’t have it either, but I’ve maxed out my holds anyway…..sigh. Put me in the drawing, please, Sars.

  • Morgan says:

    @Juju – the ice layer!!!

I blame too many banana pudding pops, a terrible perm, and the habit of borrowing my mom’s big plastic jewelry for the difficulty in adjusting to a new middle school.

  • Amy says:

I’m firmly of the opinion that it is wrong for the Kindle version to be more expensive than the paperback version.

    Grrrr…

  • Julie Peters says:

my library doesnt have any copy of it…. I ordered it online today! I was thinking about pudding pops last week how strange!!!!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Marie is our winner! Thanks for all the hats. Hee.

  • Marie says:

Whoopie, thanks Sars! My hat is the Yankees hat, tattered from living among the Bostonians!

  • Gael says:

Thanks for choosing us! Can’t wait to chat with you all!

To Jen S. 2.0: no Seattle readings have happened yet, but two coming! Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park on June 18 at 6:30 and University Books in Seattle June 20 at 7 pm. Would love to see you there!

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

Gael, awesome pops! (you see what I did there?!) My traitorous hoof should be well on the mend by then so I’ll see what I can arrange.
