Baseball

“I wrote 63 songs this year. They’re all about Jeter.” Just kidding. The game we love, the players we hate, and more.

Culture and Criticism

From Norman Mailer to Wendy Pepper — everything on film, TV, books, music, and snacks (shut up, raisins), plus the Girls’ Bike Club.

Helping public schools, winning prizes, sending a crazy lady in a tomato costume out in public.

The 13th Annual Baseball In Literature And Culture Conference

Submitted by on March 26, 2008 – 5:35 PM7 Comments

I hope I can update in the next few days; if I can’t, it’s because I’m tied up with this. I’m sad that they slotted my panel opposite the one that’s discussing The Natural, but hey, what can you do.

Anyway, if any of you locals wants to come out, I’d love to see you; my session is at 10 AM in Dining Room C. Or you can probably catch me at the baseball game on campus that night.

Have fun, Sars! I wish I could get up there for the conference. The title of your session alone has me hankering for a transcript of your speech on TN when you get back. On a fun side note, when I was a kid in the late 80s, I used to watch your luncheon speaker play Triple A ball in Buffalo, before he got traded as part of the Pirates’ (Buffalo’s major league affiliate at the time) post-Bonds fire sale.

  • Jaybird says:

I hope Tennessee folks treat you well. How do you like Tennessee, anyway? I’ve never seen you post anything bad about your experiences there, so I’m figuring it must be a fairly pleasant environment.

  • Sarah says:

MTSU! I was a band geek in high school and we spent a week every summer there for band camp. What memories… Have a great time Sars.

  • Chip says:

    Sars–

After the conference is over, will you fill us in on what those imperfections are?

So, are you leaving the next day or hanging around in town for a few? If you’re in town, you get this and have email access, shoot me a line…I’d love to meet with you for lunch or something, but I can’t do the conference since my family is in town…

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

If you see this, email me at bunting at tomatonation dot com — we’re not here for long (conference is all day Friday, then we’re off to tour Civil War things on Saturday, and leave Sunday), but maybe we can squeeze in a meet-up Saturday PM.

  • Margaret in CO says:

“Special Guest” has never had so much meaning! Good Luck, Sars!
