American Splendor

I’d read enough sterling reviews that I half expected to be disappointed, or think it was gimmicky, but it’s really good, and Paul Giamatti has deserved this kind of star turn for a while now.   Judah Friedlander is brilliant as well.   The only element that I think is maybe overrated is Hope Davis — not that she’s not good, but I don’t know how hard that role is to execute, really.   But I loved her so much in The Daytrippers, so good for her.
