Come Back to the 5 and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

In spite of the fact that every single member of the cast is really very annoying in it (except Karen Black, who is fabulous, in spite of some hair continuity issues), it’s quite good.   It’s shot so that you really feel the oppressive heat, and although it’s (I think) adapted from a play, that’s not terribly distracting; it’s obvious, but not in a bad way.   The movie goes along at a good clip, and you see things coming but it’s still entertaining to watch them unfold.   But don’t say I didn’t warn you…truly grating performances from Kathy Bates and Cher.   Awful.   Not their fault, given that their characters have a single dimension put together, but still very jarring.
