Too tricksy, too in love with itself, and wow, do people not talk to each other like they do in the last half hour. I liked Portman a lot despite how aggressively quirky the character is, Sarsgaard (…”Saarsgard”?) is great as always…it just felt like not much, really, like I’d seen it before. Warmed over and not thought through, and too much “wacky.” Quirks aren’t traits, Braff; do the work next time. Overrated. (8/10/05)
