Golden Girl: The Story of Jessica Savitch

Submitted by on March 5, 2007 – 1:55 AMNo Comment

The ending felt kind of rushed, and as I did while reading Permanent Midnight, I found myself wondering how someone so allegedly out of control could continue working and getting contracts renewed. But the book is really smoothly written, and Nash does a good job explicating the idea that Savitch’s single-minded ambition was both admirable and corrosive, even if I didn’t get why someone somewhere wasn’t just like, “That’s it, you’re fired, get some help.” Super summer read, if you’re looking for one, and you see the paperback in used bookstores all the time. (7/26/04)
