N Candy AA: Final Four

Submitted by on April 26, 2010 – 9:34 AM15 Comments

Final Four polls close Wednesday morning; updated bracket is here.Confused? Click here.

2 fudge vs. 1 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. I love fudge (hew), but it’s surprising to see it in the Final Four; the high ranking we gave it might seem to run counter to the debate we had over whether to include it at all. Is it too associated with homemade treats? Do all the varieties (maple; with nuts and without) (hew) make it too broad an entry? In the end, we chose to risk it: not including it felt like a bigger mistake. Y’all have gotten behind it (hew) so far, too, but it had a relatively easy path through the draw, and I think it’s done for now. Reese’s PBC heads to the championship game…but not by a huge margin. — Bunting

5 Twix vs. 6 Kit-Kat. In a million years, I didn’t expect we’d be here — no Snickers? Milky Way? Three Musketeers? No matter what happens in these two match-ups, it’s going to be a very weird final. If I were to choose between these two, I definitely go with Twix. I like Kit-Kat just fine, but it has one flavor and one texture. Twix has chocolate, caramel (or peanut butter, if you swing that way), and cookie. Three flavors, three textures. Twix should take this, but I’m predicting another run-off. — Keckler

5 Twix vs. 6 Kit Kat

  • Twix (67%, 678 Votes)
  • Kit Kat (33%, 334 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,012

Woohoo! I love all the Final Four! I voted for Reese’s PBC, but I’m still debating between Twix and Kit Kat. Hard choice.

  • Tisha_ says:

Man, that Twix or KitKat was the hardest choice yet! I voted for Twix, in the end. But, my beloved RPBC is going to win this whole thing. It’s for sure now. If it had been up against Snickers, it would be a bigger battle, but it’s in the bag now.

  • Kristen B says:

I voted for KitKat, basically because I don’t like the sticky caramel stuff in Twix. (Shut up, don’t judge me.) And Reese’s for the win! heh

  • Kathryn says:

Looks like Reeses is going to win its round, which means the final round will put my favorite candy bar up against…my favorite candy bar. Reeses, Twix, Kit-Kat; there is simply no way I can choose, I love you allllllll!

  • Lindsay says:

I voted for fudge only because I actively dislike PBC.

  • Amanda says:

I love peanut butter and chocolate together — my mom makes a divine chocolate sour cream cake that she frosts with chocolate-peanut butter frosting; eating it is like achieving nirvana — but I’ve developed a distaste for RPBC over the last few years. Sad, I know. So I had to vote for fudge. I grew up on homemade fudge courtesy of my paternal grandmother and am therefore spoiled.

  • Angela says:

I voted for Twix since I assume we’re going with American/Canadian versions, but the Japanese Kit-Kat is amazing and comes in tons of flavors. It’s always fun to go to the Japanese market near me and see what’s in season.

  • J+1 says:

    Reese’s all the way.

  • Amy says:

See, the Twix/Kit-Kat decision is a tough one. Neither are anywhere near my top choices, but if I’d have to choose, I’d go for any international version of Kit-Kat.

Quite a few years ago I discovered some funky flavors of Kit-Kats in Europe and have since looked for them every trip abroad. I’ve found different flavors in Egypt, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Australia, and various European countries…caramel, honey, hazelnut, vanilla, cherry, green tea, mint, orange, cappuccino, pineapple, even soy sauce (no joke!). I swear, Americans are getting screwed in the Kit-Kat department.

  • Em says:

My top 3 candy bars have made it to the Final 4…with fudge. WTF?

  • CherylS says:

I grew up with gramma’s penuche fudge. Try as I might, I cannot make her recipe come out right, and I have the blisters to prove it. So my vote for fudge is a vote for my grandmother and for childhood. Besides, I’ve also developed an aversion to RPBC after nearly o’d-ing on them a few Christmases ago.

Twix? I don’t get the cookie part. It tastes like cardboard to me. I tried one the other day, just to try to figure out the fuss, and the appeal still eludes me. The Kit Kat cookie, on the other hand, is crispity-fine, and reminds me of the sugar wafers I loved to eat layer-by-layer as a kid.

However, it looks like this final four will not bode well for my childhood favs.

  • Rachel says:

I love the Twix, but I am a proud member of the “I Eat Kit-Kats In A Very Strange Way” club, so I had to vote for that.

    Reese’s FTW!

  • Marc says:

The Twix/Kit-Kat match up was a tough call. I like Twix, but the gooey caramel is off-putting, plus when you snap one, you always get that fine spray of cookie dust in your face. Kit-Kat by comparison is the perfect candy bar. It’s a convenient size, is has all the right ingredients and no mess, which is great if you are snacking in your car. That’s my mini commercial for what it’s worth.

  • Amy says:

    @Tisha_

Thanks for that! It was a good read. I totally agree about the Soy Sauce ones- it was just like eating pancakes! And I’m officially determined to get my hands on a banana one. Because that sounds delicious.
