Friend of TN Karen tipped me to the nifty music of Schocholautte, which took me a while to get around to listening to (and even longer to spell correctly). The band has a Hives-y sound, and the stripped-down quality puts the focus on the funnier-than-you’re-expecting lyrics.Their record release party is on Friday, August 1 at Trash Bar; if you can’t make that, they’re playing at 250 Moore St. at a rooftop party.Their MySpace is linked above if you’d like more information.

If you like a more cabaret sound, I’ve got a show for you tonight: my friend Dan Callahan is performing Cole Porter selections at Don’t Tell Mama.Doors at 8, and Dan goes on at 8:30.
