Last weekend’s heavy rains caused a lot of flooding here at the bottom of the Slope, and the Root Hill Café got hit with heavy inventory losses. The RHC is a nice little place that makes a kick-ass egg-salad sandwich, and it sounds like their insurance is on the case, but why not stop by for an iced latte if you live nearby?Fourth Ave. at Carroll.Hit it.
Speaking of homonyms for “Carroll”…wow, that segue pulled like ten muscles, but anyway, my old friend Carol’s two-guitar folk outfit, Emith, has an album coming out.I can hear some of you blanching at the word “folk,” but trust me, it ain’t like that.Give “San Bernardino” a listen and see for yourself; you can find their tour dates and more tunes here (as of this writing, they’re in Milwaukee at Summerfest), and if you want to pre-order their upcoming album, click here, put “pre-order” in the PayPal subject line, and override the other selections. It’s $13 for all pre-orderers; lucky!Carol is not exactly local business, living as she does in Cali, but she’s local…TO MY HEART AWWW GROUP HUG EVERYBODY!
Jillian Lubow, on the other hand, is local, and I dig her two new songs, “Infatuated Girl” and “My Little Secret.”She has an achiness to her voice and her arrangements, but she’s so not achey in person, so the contrast is pretty cool.Check them out on iTunes, or at Amazon.

i for one dig the segue! carroll and carol are homophones, though, no?
…Crap. Yes, they are.
The first definition of homonym is “homophone.” So both are correct. No “crap” necessary!
“Homonym” is what we were taught to say in school, back in prehistoric times. Eventually some expert pointed out (correctly) that it’s the sound that’s the same, not the name, so “homophone” became the preferred term.
