The Parallax View

Really really neat — in both senses of the word. It doesn’t over-explain; the shot set-ups are amazing without getting too obvious; there’s a black humor to it that gives the movie a shot of energy; Beatty’s hair is awesome. A thriller from the days when, occasionally, the studio gave the moviegoing public credit for having half a brain — if this movie got made now, it would be an hour longer and not good because the script would belabor everything. Negative capability at its best; rent it today. (1/2/07)
