TN Read-Along #12: Gunn’s Golden Rules

Submitted by on September 27, 2011 – 1:24 AM12 Comments

I’m pretty excited to say that our next read-along tome is Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making It Work. I think it’s available in every possible edition; let’s read and discuss starting Thursday 6 October.

  • Leigh in CO says:

Yay! I have read this one. Now I just have to think of smart things to say, things other than, “I heart Tim Gunn.”

  • RJ says:

I saw Tim Gunn at a mall fashion show last weekend and he was, naturally, fabulous! So excited for this discussion, yay.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Sarah: “Well, I’ll just get started on it while I’m eating lunch.”
Two Hours Later: “Right. Got an extra fork?”

It’s so good, I can’t put it down. I can, however, put Kenley down. Shut up, Kenley. I still hate you.

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

I wasn’t too geared for this one, to tell you the truth, but the “oh boysies, this is unputdownable” vibe is getting me interested! Off to the bookstore!

  • C says:

Looks awesome. And hilarious. But WTF, why is the Kindle version so much more expensive than paper? I mostly read classics/public domain stuff on my Kindle, but generally Kindle stuff is a tiny bit cheaper than paper books. Will order a used copy, I guess!

  • Elisa says:

@C – Please allow me to rant for a second about how much more expensive Kindle versions of books have become. They are now virtually ALWAYS more expensive than the print books. WTF? You did not use any paper or ink or incur shipping costs! It had better cost less!!

  • Another Sarah J says:

oh yea, i’ve read this one already. i’ve got thoughts on Tim’s intense introversion that i’ve been wanting to discuss with others. Read faster, people! :)

God love the Kindle app on my Windows phone!

  • Nicole says:

I actually bought & read this when it appeared on Sars’s list last time. Loved it, though I was not then a Project Runway viewer. Now that I read the book and love Tim Gunn, I’ve started watching the show & taping all the marathons and now I need to go back and reread the book to get his take on the contestants now that I know them.

  • Brandi says:

Got this for Christmas and still haven’t read it. Now I have an excuse to read this instead of my doing school stuff! Yay! But seriously I will be reading in between Sensation & Perception chapters.

And add me to list of people annoyed by the cost of Kindle books! Greedy bastards!

  • Shonda says:

I loved this book. But then I love Tim Gunn. I do believe, and I mean this sincerely, that Tim Gunn loves us and only wants the best for us. “What would Tim Gunn do,” is really what you should ask yourself. (The next question I ask is, “What would Cat Deeley do,” but that’s for another day.)

And Kenley? Tsk, tsk, tsk. She’s hateful. Who can be hateful to Tim? That’s like punching a guardian angel.

  • N. says:

It’s a fabulous book and Tim just seems like the awesomest person ever. And, my favorite part is Tim recounting an event from his childhood, which includes this sentence: ” ‘ETHEL MERTZ IS HERE?’ I screamed.”

Oh, the picture in my head of a little tiny screaming Tim Gunn.

  • Megan in Seattle says:

I already loved Tim, but I didn’t expect much from this book. I was wrong. It’s relentlessly charming.

Thanks for including “Inside Scientology” on the list, too. I just got it from the library, and it looks like it’s going to be interesting.
