Contest: Revenge Of Frolf
Before we begin: $41,346. A very good day’s work (with thanks to the night shift as well).
Today, I would like you to hit 50K. Failing that, I would like you to hit at least 45K, because at 45K, our generous friends Jenn and Wiley will hit us with a 1K match. This is awesome, obviously.
The deal, she is this:
** Donate to EITHER “Genoa’s Math Club” OR “Outdoor Physical Activities” (that’s the Frisbee golf project), forward me your receipt by 11:59 PM ET today, and you can win one of 3 e.l.f. makeup mini-kits OR one of 3 thumb drives.
** If we get to the 45K match, everyone who donates to anything today is eligible to win a $10 Best Buy gift card, donated by your friend and mine, Jennifer M. — and if we get to 50K, everyone who donates to anything today is eligible to win a Roomba.
More than 8K is a big nut to crack, but you’ve done it before, and: it’s a Roomba, guys. You can name it. You can dress it up for Halloween. You can sit on the couch eating snacks while it does your chores for you. You can do it for free — if you buy some schools a little something and forward me your receipt by midnight tonight.

“I live to Frolf.” (God bless Andy Bernard.)
Personally, I haaaate Frisbee golf, but I love the idea of that project, so I’ma throw some money at it.
Roomba! Roomba! Roomba!
Me. Want. ROOMBA!!!!
Also, I put all my facebook, twitter, alumni association, and other friends on blast. Git ‘er done!
Pushing towards 45K! Bring it, lunch shift!
Now I’m wishing for a website full of pictures of people’s Roombas dressed up for Halloween.
Less than two hundo left on the Genoa/math project.
If you haven’t donated yet, today is a GREAT time to do that. Even a few bucks will do it; there’s loot to be won and heart cockles to be warmed. Or perhaps a friend or co-worker would like to get, and name/anthropomorphize, a Roomba for free.
You guys are doing really well; this is the hard part. We have to dig deep now so we can start hitting those match points. It’ll get easier soon.
You won’t get any less awesome, however.
Done. I want that Roomba.
A lot knocked off the Math Games project in just the past few minutes! I’ll be checking back with much eagerness.
Now how could I refuse to give kids games that might make them enjoy math? (Wish someone had tried that angle on me…) And then I saw the Battle of the Books one, and my inner child made me donate to that one too.
Geona’s Math Club only needs $34 to finish! Who wants a thank-you packet?
Down to $84! Only four donations of $20 until “B…21! Yes, in your FACE!” becomes a reality. You know the only thing math is missing is smack talk.
Just made a donation and it kicked my amount to a lower level because of all your Awesome! Looks like the kids will be getting board games in a quick minute!
Just tried to finish off the Genoa’s Math Club project … and the screen came up to tell me that it was funded! Awesome awesome awesome, y’all.
Done as well. The math one was fully funded (woot!) but Frisbee golf needs love too, so there you go!
Also Sars, do I forward you the reciept to your regular web address?
Aw hell yeah!
Forward anything and everything (well, not everything; I don’t want your bills, heh) to bunting at tomatonation dot com. Thanks!
Every year, I donate to the disc golf projects. It’s a great sport, and wow – combining it with kids working to stay sober & finish school? Close to my heart. Off I go…
Math Club fully funded! Yay!
43K. Not far to the match. I’m betting red; y’all should do the same.
Just curious… does the match go to the projects we fund or to projects of the matcher’s choice? Either way is great, but if the money goes to match our projects, I might wait till the match to donate to a project that is near and dear to my heart and give to something else now…
The money goes to projects of the matcher’s choice, within the Bet Red giving page.
Frolf funded? Sweet. Now they can all have their very own “Summer of George” (minus the extensive leg trauma, of course).
Frolf still has $2300 to go, from what I’m seeing. Let’s get after it.
Oh! Oh! I want a roomba! It can chase my bunnies (both dust and real)!
I think these teachers saw us coming…I don’t remember there being this many $1000+ projects before! It makes me nervous the big projects won’t get funded, then TN comes through yet again and it’s that much more satisfying when the happy “funded!” girl pops up.
Inching closer. Frolfsome! (ouch)
$43,896 – I can’t get any work done because I keep watching the total!
44K. One thousand until a match kicks in. Woo!
SOoo close to Frolf heaven!
SO close to the match! Come’on Nation!
And we’re up over 500 donors today as well. Definitely a good day; let’s make it better. Still six-odd hours to go to get that Roomba!
I’ve always been very curious about Roombas- are they powerful enough to pick up the little pieces of litter my cat always seems to be dripping out from between his toes? I have hardwood floors, and I would love to not have to sweep all the time.
$44,876!
$45K! What what y’all! It’s MATCHIN’ TIME.
45K!!!!!!!!! You guys … wow. Way to rock it.
$45K!!! Woot!
45K!! We made it to the first match!
Woo-hoo!
Awesome work, everybody. Waiting for the Widget to show the update, but the donation for the $1k match has been made.
We chose to support 4 different projects – one for worm composting, one for baking in the classroom, one for weather observation and then a piece of funding for pre-teen girls books in the classroom.
I’ve been thrilled to be a part of the TN challenge every year that Sars has done it, and I’m REALLY thrilled that we were able to help out in a big way this year. Everyone who joins in is an inspiration. Thank you!
I have been telling everyone I know about the Bet Red challenge. I’ve also emailed the writers of the more “famous” blogs I read, but so far, no luck with getting anyone to mention it. Anyone have any brilliant ideas for spreading the word? (I’m tapped out of cash until payday)
Awesome, oh wow, like totally freak me out I mean right on! The Nation sure is number one.
Just chipped in my part towards frolf! Go go tomato nation!
Past 45k!!! GO TEAM AWESOME!!!!!
Room…ba. Room…ba. Room-ba. Room-ba. Room-BA. Room-BA.
ROOM-BA! ROOM-BA! ROOM-BA! ROOM-BA! Wooooo!
Just another $3k in just about 3 hours gets us to (a) Roomba! and (b) one-third of initial goal. I’m betting red!
The Dodgers just pulled off the improbable…but they’re nothing compared to Tomato Nation!
$47,000! Woo-hoo!
I flove Roombas; we have two already but Roomby and Roombro need a baby sister . . . so does their cousin Scooby . . .
Why no, we didn’t name them. Not at all.
Outstanding effort, my friends. The Roomba will return for another mini-challenge; fear not. Well done today.
