Contest: The Final Countdown
Head-banging synchronized with synthesizer chords compliments of Europe. $266,851 compliments of Tomato Nation, Asirda, HP, Jenn and Wiley, and $ and His Mysterians.
And like the little green Jedi once said…there is another.
A gentleman we will know only as Mighty Big TARhead has placed a side bet: if our total reaches $280,000 by 5 PM EST on Saturday 31 October, Mighty Big TARhead will contribute another $20,000.
MBT has excellent taste in non-fiction television, and in non-profit organizations. Let’s not let him down, shall we? Just over 13K to go and several days to do it. No problem.
In keeping with the Star Wars theme, anyone donating to today’s list of projects (scroll down, won’tcha) is eligible to win two (2) tickets to Star Wars In Concert at the Nassau Coliseum, donated by the celestial Tammy D. You could also win a Wonder Killer t-shirt — you guys are the opposite of that, and so is the talented and good-hearted Pamie (she donated them), but the shirts are still rad. (And red, as it happens.) Lots of sizes…lots of love aw group hug.
The list is below; email me your receipts at bunting at tomatonation dot com.

Also, Mrs P of the Native American POW WOW project seems a little overwhelmed by our awesomeness…. She too cannot believe what she is seeing… http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=286290&challengeid=23248
This message was just posted by Mrs. P from Native American POW WOW

“Is this for real. This is the first time I’ve done this donorschoose.org I really didn’t hink it would happen. Thanks.”
I am sure Team AWESOME will get this taken care of today! How exciting for a first time DC teacher!
Sweet mother of balls, 300K. Dude. DUDE! You’re using your powers for good! So weird to see that in real life!
Earworm arrgh! Hooray for Team Awesome, and for payday, which means I could finally donate too!

That is too funny! I was just saying LAST NIGHT how I’m the “Wonder Killer” of our group and I really wished I had bought one of those shirts back when they were Now or Never on Glarkware! Soooo off to the donate button for me! Maybe I’ll WIN one! YAY!
We have hit a QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS? And it’s not even over yet? Sweet Jeebus.
(264,000K) oughta do it, don’t you think? You think we need one more? You think we need one more. All right, we’ll get one more.
Well this thank you note just made me cry. Again.

Calling All Scientists- FUNDED
I just did that one myself! How awesome!
Hi Tomato Nation,
I am one of the teachers whose project appears on this site and I am so excited for the great work you are doing. I promise you, teachers really do get this stuff and kids really do love it. You have made my day, and I know that all of these teachers and their students are grateful.
And of course I let my students read Twilight in school…I just love to see them reading!
As “awesome news to wake up to” goes, that’s not quite at the top of my list, but you know… it’s pretty damn close.
Calling All Scientists just turned over, too; we’re down to only five projects that need funding before the 17th (from 11) and $2600 needed to do it (from about $6900). We also just passed $268k!
(Side note: Since it was asked in the comments yesterday: my chameleon-like handles are made up on the fly (by both Sars and me, as far as I know) and based off of books, movie titles, poetry, plays, songs, etc. And yes, I do have a blog and will add the link to my name (changing though it is) in the next few days.)
I have a feeling the night of October 31st is going to be interesting, and not just because it’s Halloween. At 11:59PM on October 31st, I check our final total; at 12:01AM on November 1st, I start writing for NaNo. Not going to lie – I’m excited to see what we manage between now and then.
Lab coats also funded! It behooves me to say “Mee mee mee mee mee mee.”
Hidden Hallway to Health just funded! We’re down to three urgent projects and less than $2000 to fund them completely.
Ok, thank you for putting Twilight up there so my lazy butt FINALLY pulled out my credit card.
Puhleeze let me get my bonus DC card (for signing up for the automatic payment) this week! I hope they have time to process them!
Hurrah for Tracy from Peoria, IL! I checked an hour ago and the Hidden Hallway to Health project had quite a bit left to fund it. I went to figure out how much I could give to it – when I clicked back, it was funded!
Hmm…. now off to figure out which other project I can donate to…

You can’t hide that high school pride! From one team to our team, check it out!
$20,000?!!! Holy moley, we have to get that match…
Aaaannd, Twilight is funded. Go Nation!
300K! 300K!
How can you say “no” to this project: “MP3 Players for Severely Disabled Students”? (http://tinyurl.com/yjn9f9o)
I couldn’t!
I’m seeing $286,731. So that’s actually $300+. Sweet tapdancing Jebus, Nation! God, I love the last hysterical, astounding days of this challenge SO MUCH. I am humbled every year. Ow, my eye.
I’m only seeing 269-ish. Make sure you’re looking at Bet Red only, because I think that 286 number is all General Blogs together.
I just realized I hadn’t been over here yet today. When I pulled up the site, and saw the total, I almost spit Coke all over the screen! :) And suddenly, it’s very, very dusty in my office. Go Nation!
This project has a bit more time, but only $334 to go – and she has a glimmer of hope, a glimmer! Let’s show her how the Tomato Nation gets things done.
Kindergarteners & Puppets! C’maaaaaaan!!
Who Took the Drama out of Kindergarten?
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=297676&challengeid=23248
Her note for the 5 donations she has already received…
“I am so touched that in such a short time so many people have made a contribution to our project. I had almost given up hope about a month ago and then suddenly there was a glimmer just last week. “
My concern for 2010 isn’t that we can do this again but that you’ll have to find a movie as quotable as Ocean’s 11. You’re gonna need a crew as nuts as you are. [Enter the Nation.]
I want to push this one again–we’re almost there! http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=296554&challengeid=23248
Only Delaware project, only $109 left, and they only want a white board! C’mon, Nation!
Augh just READING THE TITLE got that stupid song in my HEAD AUGH.
Okay, okay, this is fair payback for “Soldier Boy”-ing you the other night. Well played, Sars.
(hate!)
@Shanchan, make sure you check your junk folder for the DC Giving Card–that’s where I found mine yesterday!
HHHHEEEEEEEEEEAVE! We can do it Nation! Let’s get that match!!!!!! :)
and the Awesome Alphabet Activities has met teh AWESOME. Another Assignment Accounted for :)
$300k? Ho. Le. SHEET. Awesome.
@Sarah Ms. M wants to know what TomatoNation is? Figured you could do the best summary :)
