Match Game

Submitted by on October 23, 2008 – 12:46 PM23 Comments

I’m so excited for the money to kick in, I blanked my blank!

Sorry; little GSN “humor” for you there.   The match is ON, my generous friends. Let’s get this done.

(Note: projects already half funded won’t get put into the match pool, so check the project for the Double Your Impact doodad if you want to get the max from your moolah.)

Stay tuned for another mini-prize opp later today.   And stay awesome.

By the way?   77K right now.

Since the project I closed out wasn’t eligible for doubling I gave more money to something that was. Is it possible to be addicted to donating??

  • Elizabeth says:

It looks like introducing the match resulted in some math errors. For example. “Ready, Set, Go” is listed on one page as $38 needed and on another page as $138 needed. Neither of which appears correct as the Total Cost is listed as $762, with the amount given as $243 – so by my calculations, it still needs $260 plus the match.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

If you have any questions about messed-up math, whether a donation got doubled, etc., please email zach at donorschoose dot org. I can guess at how the system is counting donations received/needed, but going directly to the source with any confusion is probably best, as I would only be reporting what Zach tells me and unfortunately there’s only so much I can control/answer from offsite.

But if something looks hinky, they want to know, so please do email Zach and report back here.

    @Talix18:

Well, I get paid tomorrow, but I couldn’t wait that long and just made another donation, so…yeah, I think it is! :)

  • Janessa says:

Can I throw one out that needs funding? It has the match attached, and it is working to get life saving equipment into a classroom. My dad has heart disease and WOULD have died if there hadn’t been an AED in his school.

I had to supply this info, because, yes, donating is addictive.

I didn’t receive a thank-you packet for my Tomato Nation donation from last year, which was totally OK with me, and I honestly didn’t even notice. I mean, the packets are fun, but they aren’t ALL the fun. Anyhoo…

A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from Donors Choose telling me they were going to fund $100 of my choice to make up for the situation (they rock) so I responded that anything in the Tomato Nation challenge would do for me.

I just got this from Zach:

Sorry for the slow response here…we’ve had a couple technical glitches
taking care of these requests! I’ve just applied your $100 to a great
project on the Tomato Nation challenge. And since the sweet match is in
effect it will count double. Whooo!

Thanks so much or your kindness and understanding. You’ll receive
another email confirmation of this later today.

Is it possible to have a crush on a charitable organization? Or on a blogging community? Because I think maybe I do.

  • Angela says:

Match Game humor! Be still my heart! Is there a Gene Rayburn-themed project I can donate to? (I HOPE I HOPE)

  • Margaret in CO says:

“Since the project I closed out wasn’t eligible for doubling I gave more money to something that was. Is it possible to be addicted to donating??”

Yes, yes it is. And I need a note to my accountant to explain this month. :-)

  • Academic says:

And looking at the sum of all of the projects listed on that link, Sars it looks like you can add more projects! Doesn’t quite add up to 12,500 yet!

  • Margaret in CO says:

“Is it possible to have a crush on a charitable organization?”

Yes, yes it is. And Zach is a god. Or a knight in shining armor. Or one of those guys on the romance novels with a torn puffy shirt. *swoon*

  • JeniMull says:

Oh, it’s addictive, all right. I have already thought of two people in whose honor I “simply had to” donate – because I can’t stop loading up my credit card with more donations.

And now, I will be eating lentil soup for a month – totally worth it!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

You will be fartily awesome. I approve. [poot]

Also: 80! And 26 new donors! Excelleeeeeeent!

Also also, I’ve just added some Elie Wiesel and some Roald Dahl to the projects if anyone cherishes those authors in particular.

AND there was GOING to be another mini-prize, but y’all finished the project we wanted to use before I had a chance to get organized, which is quite brilliant, really. I’ll think of another one, so stay tuned.

  • Leigh in CO says:

Best idea I had all day: buy my annual Donors Choose family X-mas gift NOW, rather than in December. Family shopping is now complete.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    81!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    82.3!

  • Kat says:

83,260!!! I just funded out the weight training one. whee!!!! love the matching!!!!!

  • Marie says:

Awesome! I was weighting for someone to fund out the lifting project, as that’s when the match kicks in! (Seriously, what is with all the punning?)

  • juliette says:

Woot! I love me some Roald Dahl! The Witches was fabulous! Had to pop in and toss cash at that!

  • bristlesage says:

Leigh in CO, I got that same email and told them to donate toward admin stuff. I thought it was just CRAZY that they would offer to do that, and of course, by “crazy” I mean, “really living up to their promise to the X-TREME”.

Go tomatoes, go tomatoes, go tomatoes go!

  • Jenn C. says:

@Janessa, I finished that one off this morning. It’s been pissing me off that this teacher was having to beg to meet the medical needs of her students. Seriously, life and death equipment, and it’s not in the freaking budget? What the hell?!?

    Anyway, it’s done.

  • Janessa says:

@Jenn C, I got the notice this morning that it was done and I broke down. You’re right, this shouldn’t be a “luxery” that teachers have to ask for, but I’m glad that when they do, we deliver.
