Save The Day: April 25

Submitted by on April 25, 2011 – 9:33 AM8 Comments

9:30 AM update

We head into the last week at $123,711 — not far at all until our match at 125! That’s fantastic. Let’s finish strong, Legion of Awesome.

Today’s mini-prize, Giving Page edition: the Giving Page that raises the most money by noon tomorrow ET will get an additional project completed, and the Giving Page that raises the highest percentage of additional money will also get an additional project completed. (Using real numbers: if your GP raises $100 and all the other GPs raise $50 or $69, your GP will get another project completed; and if your GP starts at $1 and raises $100, for a 98% increase, while all the others start at $50 and raise $100 for a 66% increase, you will get another project completed. I have not finished my coffee yet, so if those numbers look bonky, leave a comment. GPs currently at zero will be calculated as starting at $1.)

If this is still unclear, the short version is that you want to raise a lot of money for your Giving Page by noon tomorrow ET.

Today’s mini-prize, individual-donor edition: donate to any project on the leaderboard; forward me your receipt; and you’re eligible for a copy of Leverage Season 2 on DVD, generously furnished by reader Lara G.

Now and forever, the sortable project spreadsheet is right here.

“Slithering through Science” is trying to get a corn snake and tank for a middle school classroom. I’ve had a class snake for years—and it is a wonderful grab attention and get kids reading, writing, talking, and learning! Please donate to this Splat! project to keep school fresh and exciting for young teens.

I just funded a project to buy Time for Kids for a classroom in Utah. Within an hour, the teacher has posted the following:

    Dear Kate,

When I read the email that you had funded our project I yelled with joy. I shared the great news with the students in both classes and they all started clapping and cheering for you. Thank you so very much for your help.

It is amazing to me how uninformed of current events some students are. They don’t have the knowledge of where to go or how to become informed. Some lack the desire. Time for Kids does an excellent job of integrating math, current events, and (of course) reading into a magazine that the students find interesting and are excited to read.

Your generosity will help create smart, informed, educated students that will go on to become smart, informed, educated adults who are conscientious about the world around them and their part in it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
    With gratitude,
    Ms. D.

Man, is that worth my measly $43 bucks or what? Made me cry. And cheer. In the office. Whatever, they already think I’m a crazy old lady.

Thanks to Sars and the Nation for the making me feel so very awesome.

I work for a company that matches funds for DonorsChoose.org. Today I donated to a classroom project and got a matching donation from my company. At the end of today one of your readers donated funds to complete the project. I dont know how or why they found this project but all I can say is Thank You.
