Save The Day: April 28
3:45 PM update
A little note from reader Patty D.:
Hey Sarah,
Just thought you might like to know that the TN Contest inspired me to challenge my book group to fund a DonorsChoose.org project supporting reading in a Seattle classroom. So thanks to you, indirectly, a class of 1st-graders will be getting a selection of big books to read together in class. Thanks for introducing me to DC all those years ago and continuing to orchestrate these awesome contests!
Well, really, it’s thanks to you — and to DonorsChoose.org, and how fun the organization makes it to give money. But I get notes like this on occasion, and I really appreciate them; thanks to all of you who have gotten in touch!
We’ve still got a couple days of work to do, Legion. $141,900 as of this writing, so go get those gift codes in honor of our pets! Or, if you hate pets, look for a project on Amanda-tron’s Sortable Spreadsheet 7000 instead — and don’t forget to forward me your receipts!
9:30 AM update
As we head into the last three days, we’re at $139,701 — but rumor has it it’s payday, so I’m hoping for good things. Getting to a nice round 150K by Saturday would kick ass, so if you’ve waited ’til the last minute to donate, the last minute has now arrived.
And speaking, tangentially, of the puppy-dog eyes you may imagine me making to accompany a request for donations: it’s pet theme day today. Check out one of the furry-friend-related Giving Pages on the leaderboard like Pets4Kids, Parker’s Giving Page, Snickers’ Giving Page (you ever notice how many dogs are named “Snickers” and “Wheaties”? is that just me?), or fluffy Bella and her human companion.
Or get kids interested in biology and life cycles with a worm compost kit or a tarantula habitat.
Thanks to reader Adrian, all donations today are eligible for one of four (4) $25 DonorsChoose.org gift codes — and one more $25 gift code for donations specifically to “Project Our Autism Program Into Awesomeness”! Please forward all receipts to me by midnight tonight ET to try to win a gift code!
One more program note: it’s the last three days, so I won’t be adding new projects to the Superpage from here on out. Let’s make a dent in what’s already there. Great work so far!

What?!?! MORE prizes???
Yes. :-)
Just a reminder, anyone who donates to this project — http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=540906&challengeid=155170 — has the chance to win at least 1 of the following:
*A ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR GIFT CARD to Donors Choose!!! To win, you need to bring the most donors to the project link above. In order to qualify, your donors need to say “I donated because asked me to support Mrs. K’s students.”
*$50 GIFT CARD to Amazon or Donors Choose. For this one, all you have to do is donate!
*$25 GIFT CARD to Amazon or Donors Choose. Just donate!
Spread the word and have fun!!!
isn’t pet related, but it’s going to expire today and I’d love to see it funded. I think learning the parts of a flower by painting them and relating them to recognized art, would be a lot of fun for a kid.
FIRE! FIRE! Help or we will EXPIRE! giving page NEEDS YOUR HELP! We have 11 projects expiring in the coming days! A majority can be funded from $20-$80. Can you spare a few dollars for a teacher in need? A generous donor from NY gave us a great start this morning (and most mornings). A classroom project is a terrible thing to lose! BE A HERO TO A CHILD TODAY!
These Florida teachers could really use a hand .. even a dollar can go a long way.. Go Tomato Nation!!!

This one isn’t pet-related either, but it’s only six days and $369 to go. I know the amazing Nation can make it happen!

Woo-hoo! Thanks to a gift code from DonorsChoose as an early birthday present, I have now donated to 65 projects in 50 states plus the District during the month of April!
In honor of the Royal Wedding, my husband and I are making bets! (What color are the bridesmaid dresses, will the Queen cry, where will the honeymoon be, etc.). For every bet I when, I will pledge $5 to a project. Royal gambling for kids!
Sweet, my birthday isn’t for a couple weeks but DC sent me a gift code early!
Thanks for spotlighting Bella and me, Sars! Most of the projects I picked have already been finished off — Math is Life! is the lowest-cost-to-fulfillment left on our page, and both of us would love to see it completed today! (Really — if it gets done, I’ll give her a treat.)
I know there have been many of us TOTALLY INVOLVED for the past month in the “SAVE THE DAY” campaign. I have been managing 3 giving pages even while on vacation in Hawaii for 3 weeks. ALL I HAVE TO SAY is take a look at the numbers to my family and friends who wonder if I am ever going to leave my laptop. $140K raised so far with 125K+ children reached. Our FIRE! FIRE! GP just topped 40,500 students reached. SIMPLY AMAZING!! To all who are working hard to make it happen…YOU ROCK! 3 days to go.. BE A HERO TO A CHILD TODAY! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!
Payday tomorrow; my donating finger is getting itchy already!
This project and, but lost (aww…) HP funding. It is finally under $200 again! (I gave myself a few donatons to help get it there)Please give it a helping hand. Would love to have this funded so my students have their flash drives to save their work by yea’s end! Thank you!!

Just read about me and you will understand my story!
