7A Productions is pleased to present the documentary Nikki: A Girl with Rett Syndrome — more information is available by clicking the link.   The movie is now available on DVD via pre-order, and the filmmakers will donate $5 of every pre-order to Rett Syndrome research; their goal is to get 200 pre-orders, which raises $1000 for the cause.

Children with Rett appear to develop normally until 6 to 18 months of age when they enter an irreversible period of regression, losing speech and motor skills. Most develop repetitive hand movements, irregular breathing patterns, seizures, and extreme motor control problems. Rett leaves its victims profoundly disabled, requiring maximum assistance with every aspect of daily living. There is no cure.

After getting to know Nikki, I had to understand what Rett Syndrome was, and more importantly, who was trying to find a cure.

7A Productions has also donated a two-pack of their dramas Room 314 and One Night as a prize in the contest (the lucky winner can see my name in the One Night credits as a wardrobe assistant; hee!).   If you have any questions about any of 7A’s films, please feel free to contact John Ramos and/or Michael Knowles (a.k.a. “Uncomfortable Truths Guy,” which when it comes to documentary film is actually a good guy to be).

Oh, thanks for the heads-up, I’ll have to look into this. I knew someone whose daughter had Rett Syndrome years ago – unfortunately we lost touch, but I still wonder occasionally how Kayla’s doing.
