The Tomato Nation Fall Classic: Call to the Pen

Submitted by on October 25, 2010 – 11:10 AM15 Comments

I need some help from you guys on a few things.

I need you to watch Terriers on FX. All y’all Donal Logue fans will eat it up, and it’s a good show besides that. I’d like to see a second season, so do me a solid and give it a try, if you haven’t already.

I need a black long-sleeved v-neck split-sleeve top for my Halloween costume. Google doesn’t seem to understand what I want here, but the costume is Ursa from Superman II. Any long-sleeved split-sleeve will do at this point (I can hack the v-neck part myself), so hit me with links in the comments.

And I need you to donate to the TN Fall Classic. We have less than a week to go and $7,423 left to raise. Children need cleats; college students need books; I need to honor the anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s death, which was yesterday, by carrying his particular brand of principled bad-assery into the world.

Jackie didn’t fuck around. Neither should we. Donate today via tnfallclassic at gmail dot com, or hit the button below — and thanks again for being awesome.

I’ll be making my donation tonight, on the assumption that Peeps and Twizzlers will sail through to the next round.

Can’t you handle the split-sleeves yourself also? I’d split them, then tack a few stitches at the top and bottom of the split so it doesn’t propagate itself further.

  • Kizz says:

I’ve been watching Terriers and loving it more with every episode. Hope we’ll see his sister again soon!

Fingers crossed for an S2 pick up. Do you know when we’ll find out?

  • Leigh in CO says:

    LOVE Terriers.

  • mspaul says:

Well, Jay Cutler finished the month of October with an impressive 20 sacks, so that’s $100 for the kids. And since I was actually at yesterday’s game and have to do *something* to make me feel better about that travesty of football, I’m going to kick in an extra $5 for each of Cutler’s fumbles and interceptions for the day, bringing the grand total to $125. At least something good is coming out of this train-wreck season!

  • Jennifer says:

I also love Terriers! And, as I live in San Diego, I get to see where I live/jog/drink on TV.

  • Leigh in CO says:

@mspaul: It could have been worse. You could be a Broncos fan, too. Our only consolation is the ongoing realization that keeping Cutler probably wouldn’t have helped. I’m looking at you, Josh McTwerpial.

My Phils got eliminated a bit sooner than I wanted, but I’m in a giving mood today. So I figured, to hell with math, I’ll just kick in $100.

  • Katherine says:

This and this are probably both too expensive for a halloween costume, but if you’re desperate.

  • Cora says:

You’ve probably already thought of this, but re: Ursa, you could go to a cheap big girls store (think Avenue) and get a blousy long-sleeve top, belt it, and slit the sleeves yourself and hold them in place with black elastic. You might even have better luck going to a men’s store and looking at formal shirts on the sale rack, and do the belt-and-slit. Are you going with Zod?

    re: Terriers

Love it! I actually sat behind Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James at the University of Michigan homecoming football game a couple weeks ago. They were super nice, great fans, and extremely willing to chat/pose for pictures between plays. My sister-in-law actually interned on Grounded For Life, and Donal remembered her and asked us to pass on his best wishes. So on a personal note, great show, great actors, and truly nice people.

  • Toni says:

Money sent. I got a few unexpected birthday checks, and figured I could shoot some your way.

  • Schlinkaboo says:

I second Cora’s suggestion of the Grande Girls store…. I was also thinking a maternity store. (Have shopped in both recently, apparently the design correction for big belly is overfabricing the arms to distraction.) Some creative scissoring and a belt should get the desired look. Oh, wait, for an inexpensive option, hit Salvation Army or Goodwill in the maternity section, you might have some luck.

  • Tal says:

My $140 for the CSes has just been posted; I’m still planning to throw in for however many Ks the Freak rings up in the Series. Re: Paypal; fee? When did the fee thing start?

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Tal: Fee on your end? They usually ding the recipient, which is also quite annoying.

  • Tal says:

Sars: they gave me the option of paying the fee – I think I could have opted out. I’d never seen that before today.
