  • Jennifer says:

Holy Guacamole! Congratulations and thanks to everyone who donated. I felt kind of bad that I couldn’t spare too much money this month, but the volume of donors shows that if everyone gives just a bit, we can accomplish amazing things together. Almost 16,000 kids impacted! Yay!

  • Meg says:

*joins the slow clap, with incredulous-yet-growing-more-excited facial expression*

  • Go Amie says:

    *clap…clap…clap…*

  • karen says:

Yay! Congratulations! The best part, I think, is the section that says “Students impacted” and it’s almost 16,000.

    16,000!!!! That’s so many kids!

*joins in on the slow clap, looking very serious*

  • Jennifer says:

My jaw is on the floor. And, much as I love Mr. Colbert, nyah nyah nyah!!!! :D

  • Toni says:

    Sweet googly moogly.

  • Carrie Ann says:

I just can’t believe that number, Sars. This has been such an amazing thing to see. Thank you.

    *blubbers*

  • Cij says:

I’m doing a one person conga line dance around my cubicle. Wheeeeeeeeee!

  • Melanie says:

No shit? Holy cow. I knew it would get done, I just didn’t think it would get done 6 days before the end of the month. How awesome are we? So awesome.

  • Annie says:

Incredible! Yay, everybody! Did we get world peace? I hear sirens outside, but maybe they’re just going to get kittens out of trees full-time now.

  • seedless grape says:

    *joins in the slow clap*

  • Kathryn says:

Wow. People (especially Tomato Nation readers, apparently) are really amazing. That is a whole lot of awesome- and a whole lot of help for a whole lot of kids.

  • fair_n_hite_451 says:

Holy crapsticks! 100K … I would not have thought it possible.

Huge claps on the back all around … and I shall never underestimate the awesomeness of your crew any longer Sars.

  • Rishi says:

    *joins in slow clap*

I wish I would have had money to donate, but y’all are awesome! And awesomer! And did I mention awesome!

  • Wendy says:

Wow, that’s so great! Yay Tomatoey Awesomeness! I was telling my sister about the Challenge, and she says’ “Oh yeah, DonorsChoose… I’m on that.”. My response: “Whaaa?” So yeah, my sister is a teacher, and has two projects on donorschoose, and I didn’t even know about it!

    Let’s Get Dirty: http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=117022&zone=0 needs $458

    and

    Please DOn’t Stop!: http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=117031&zone=0 needs $314

She has her class write a book each year, and self-publishes it. It’s a really great experience for the kids, and they feel so amazing having actually written a book that they can check out in the library! They sell the books as well, and donate the proceeds to The Ronald McDonald House, so they get to experience donating money to an important cause as well. She isn’t able to submit that project to donorschoose for some reason, but I think it says alot about her as a teacher and a person.

Anyhoo, not sure if you need any more projects to try and fund, but those would be my suggestions!!!

  • Annie says:

Colbertnation has got nuthin’ on the TOMATONATION!!

I’m going to make something with tomatoes in it for dinner tonight, to celebrate the X-TREME AWESOMENESS.

  • Meaghan says:

Awesomely amazing. Sars, look what you’ve inspired. Better keep being awesome!

  • Kona says:

Wow. At a time like this, I can only think of three words that are appropriate: “Suck. It. Colbert.”

    Awesome.

    …okay, four.

  • Heather says:

    Le WOOT!

That said, there’s still one project that’s only partially funded…?

  • KPP says:

Wow! Everyone is awesome! Thanks, Sars, for all your hard work and being such a inspirational force! I scoff at our initial goal of $35,000!

  • Carrie says:

Wowza. I don’t think I’ve ever been part of something so big before in my whole life.

  • Molly says:

    Wow.

$35,000 sure seems quaint in the rearview mirror, doesn’t it?

  • Michelle says:

Heather, I think our collective awesome broke the DC website. I believe Sars said that the “Challenge Progress” part of the page is right but the individual projects numbers sometimes go a little tweaky.

Nicely done, people. 1096 of you are total bad-asses.

I’m kinda glad I’m not Sars, because the way my brain works, I’d totally spend the next eleven months in an absolute panic over how I’m supposed to be able to top this next year!

  • KAB says:

Damn. So, what is the challenge going to be next year? I mean, the initial $35K seems like almost an insult now, as that was met in, what, 5 minutes? If $100K can be raised in 24 days, what could be accomplished with the whole month? $150K? $250K? One meeelion dollars?

You rock, Sars! I am looking forward to the Tomato Dance of Awesome! And, seriously, you should be getting a boatload of press for this. At the very least Colbert should bow to your fundraising prowess.

  • scarlet says:

Incredible – and truly inspiring. Congrats to everyone who made this happen. Sars, what the goal for next year??

  • amy says:

I so wanted to see the $100K thermometer all filled to the top. But instead, I got a message that says “The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.”

I think our awesomenessosity is the capacity problem that done broke the website! Wow. :-)

  • Jennifer says:

I tacked on my donation after you all had busted the thermometer, but I’m still proud to be part of the awesomeness.

  • daki says:

Oh lordy, so awesome. It cain’t be said enough. AWESOME.

I have to say, as feel-good as participating in this whole 100K blowout has been, the feely-goodiest part? Getting the emails from the teachers saying they got their funds and their kids are excited. After my first donation, I got the email, and it was such a high that I went and spent $10 here and $10 there on TN projects just to keep raking in the thank you emails. Too damn awesome.

Thanks, Sars, for inspiring this awesomeathon!

  • elizabethrn says:

Slow-clappin like the end of a Battlestar Galactica episode over here.

  • Jill says:

Awwwwwwesooooommmme!!! Sars, thanks for letting us rally around your tomato-y goodness to help all those kids. Any chance of pics with some of the kids clustered (heh) around your tomato self?

  • Julie says:

This contest is legen…wait for it…dary. Congratulations Sars!!

  • BillSimmonsDad says:

    Let’s go for $150,000.00!!!

  • Bascha says:

    Joins in with the clapping…

  • jenster8dc says:

I am blown away. With all that’s wrong in the world today, it’s joyous to see something go so awesomely right.

You, Sars, are the man. (Oh, you know what I mean.)

  • SaraJ says:

So, so amazing. And, in fact, awesome. So awesome that I felt the need to put an “AWESOME” on the back of my donation tomato pillow. So, bonus? I am so excited to be a part of this! And clearly, Colbert needs to start fearing tomatoes nearly as much as bears.

  • Leah says:

I just weirded out my co-workers by cheering and doing the happy dance in my chair! (We don’t have cubes so I’m in full view of everyone here)

    We are awesome!

    Sars rocks!

(So…. um… how do we top this next year?)

  • Kimy says:

*joins the slow clapping that has turned into uproarious applause and chants of “AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME…”*

  • doriette says:

    Screw Colbert –

    SARAH D. BUNTING for PRESIDENT!

(OOH! or even better – make your first name the initial & use your second name! That sounds VERY presidential.)

  • FloridaErin says:

    Amy- “awesomenessosity”.

    Brilliant.

  • Cathy says:

Everyone gets a round of their beverage of choice on me. Now we just need to find a bar big enough to hold all the Awesome.

  • Kim says:

Incorporating a bleacher-rattling foot stomp into the slow clap, here. Also I might be crying a little like a goddamn baby because holy shit, this is cool. (Luckily, I am also still tittering at “leafy little hat,” which I can absolutely not wait to see.)

Sars. Look what you DID, girl, damn. At the very least Colbert should offer you a cabinet post, as Secretary of AWESOME!

  • Jenny says:

Wow, y’all have kind of restored my faith in humanity. This site, its creator, and its readers are just amazing.

    *joins in the slow clapping*

  • em-dash says:

*joins in the standing ovation/slow clap*

    Awesome.
