TN Fall Contest: “I Take Really Short Showers”

Submitted by on October 3, 2007 – 10:50 AM26 Comments

Serendipitous provenance of the quotation aside, I have not showered yet today because I am afraid to leave you spendy peeps alone. And I take short showers! Short hair, short showers! Still afraid! Smelly and afraid! And proud!

We’re at 56 percent at the moment. Try not to polish the damn thing off until I get dressed. Hee.

(awesome)

“I thought we could donate to the challenge generally — I don’t see an option to do that.” Me neither, and I could swear we had one last year, because I remember applying credits. Try giving me a gift certificate, that might work; your receipt from that can count as your contest entry. Or email Zach, who is probably writhing on the floor with carpal tunnel right now, and see what he says: zach at donorschoose dot org. (Hi Zach! Sorry my readers are SO AWESOME! Starbucks is on me!)

  • Sars says:

    Um, I meant 58%. Hee.

  • Sars says:

63% percent showering now oh God

  • Rachel says:

…63% Holy awesome shit. I cannot WAIT for the Dancing Tomato.

  • doriette says:

Four minutes later? Four percent more.

  • Heather says:

Where are you going to get a tomato costume? 67%!

  • daki says:

dress fast & go with the towel-dried hair, cause you’re at 67% already.

Thanks, Awesominions, for funding the butterfly garden for my school district’s pre-k schools! (And Sars for picking that project.) Those pre-k schools are amazing, you can’t stop with the warm fuzzies when you walk into them – the bright walls, the little munchkin faces, the too-damn-cute tiny chairs everywhere. The butterfly garden school backs up to where my kids play soccer, so I can’t wait to check out the power of Sars’s readers firsthand.

  • Michelene says:

    I haven’t showered yet either. Can’t . . . look away . . . from the thermometer . . .

    68%

  • lizb says:

ok, really, really stupid question, but I searched all over and couldn’t find the info: Sars, what’s your email (to which we send the receipts)? I feel very dumb for asking. I’m sure it’s probably in the most obvious spot, but that’s usually a guarantee I can’t find it (like looking for keys).

    and now? 68%

holy freaking cow. what will part 3 be? there has to be a part 3!

  • Smash says:

68% as of 11:14 a.m. East Coast time!!! This is WAY MORE FUN than actually doing my job right now.

  • Anne-Cara says:

That’s 70%, Ms. Bunting. Better hurry up with that shower.

  • Sars says:

@lizb: sars at tomatonation dot com. I need to build a permalink to that but clearly will not get to it today. Heh.

  • Melissa says:

I love that your supplemental contest is kicking the butts of so many of the other blogs’ main contest, especially the so-and-so_for_president blogs. It’s very funny that so many of your readers want a tomato costume dance (well, and well-educated kids of course), yet the readers of the political campaign blogs can’t be bothered to donate more than say $10 (I bet Ron Paul is so proud of his stingy peeps) in honor of their chosen presidential candidate. The American public has spoken: more tomato dances, fewer boring people (with rich, but stingy friends) trying to become the next prez. That’s democracy and capitalism in action!

  • Laura says:

After this round gets fully funded, the next should include some projects that are only a few days from expiration–who better to raise, say, $1200 for a laptop in one day than TN readers?

  • Tisha___ says:

    73% OMG

  • Sars says:

You know, I may have an unfair advantage here, because you guys 1) are old pros at this, and 2) know how awesome it is to do — how fun it is to watch the thermometer and stuff like that. So I don’t have to do much cheerleading, because my readers already get what it’s about.

    Because: awesome.

  • Karen says:

10% in 10 minutes! You have about 22 minutes to get showered Sars!

I’m just *stunned* by the awesomeness of us all (yes, I’m including myself).

  • bronte says:

    @ melissa
It’s market forces! we want something for our money. That something just happens to be Dancing Tomatoes. That and those of us outside the US are avoiding the presidential websites like the plague.

May I just say that cherry tomatoes (AKA Hobey and Little Joe) would be so completely awesome.

    Sars, how about
40K for the dance, and the
50K for the Claire Danes top-up to 55K.

    right now 73%
To 60K for the Cherry Tomatoes

  • Rain says:

@Melissa: I’ve only donated ten bucks so far. I don’t think it’s necessarily stinginess.
I think it’s more that while I did look rather longingly at Jon Stewart for president, I want to make a giant tomato invade 30 Rock *more*. And, I don’t…think donating in a candidate’s name will necessarily help them become president. If said candidate were to offer to wear a giant fruit/vegetable costume, then that would be truly awesome.

I should tell Jon Stewart. Anyone have his contact info?

  • Stephanie says:

Laura: “After this round gets fully funded, the next should include some projects that are only a few days from expiration”

I totally agree! In fact, I just send a couple of projects due to expire in three or four days to Sars as suggestions for the next bonus round. Who indeed better than us to save these projects that are about to die unfunded?

  • B says:

@melissa: But how much for the ensuing medical bills? Cherry tomatoes would be kind of dangerous…

I can’t stop checking the thermometer!

  • Sol says:

You know, after 50K we should just have a “Sars for President” thing – I mean, if Sars can raise this much money in what? 2 days? Then she can totally handle our national deficit. I’d do the math but…math.

  • Jenn says:

six minutes, 3% increase. clearly no work getting done by me today.

  • WendyD says:

I’m waiting for the Colbert Nation to grab on to this contest. I’d think they could come in a respectable 2nd.

  • Cathy says:

20% in half an hour. Un-frakkin-REAL…

  • Heather says:

    Is Colbert technically a blogger?

  • Ali says:

As of this posting, we’re almost halfway through the second bonus round. So…what are you going to do next?
