TN Fall Contest: In medias…reeeees

Submitted by on October 1, 2007 – 8:46 AM16 Comments

Aw, Mr. Katimski.

I put up the contest, I went to bed, I got up, and what do you know, as of this writing we’ve got 4% of the official goal and three (3) projects already funded. Not bad for eight hours’ work, people. In fact, it’s awesome.

Quick note on PayPal donations — if you can’t donate via credit card on the Donors Choose site, I’m happy to accept a donation from you in USD via PayPal; the current plan, just to make my life easier, is to do all those donations at once at the end of each day. Before you send me any money, though, please do make sure you can’t use your credit card on the DC site. (I am reasonably sure Canadians can donate that way.)

If that’s not working, drop me a line and we’ll get it set up. Thanks!

And now, for this post’s Pet Project: “Out of the Oort-inary.” Let’s give that teacher a hand for a so-bad-it’s-good astronomy pun, and let’s give her class a hand learning about math and teamwork.

Awesome. As someone who joyfully dorked out at my highschool’s Space Simulation club (where, in fact, I met my husband), I will be contributing to that project.

  • Kitten Reames says:

    Dear Sars,

I will happily donate $250 IF you change the challenge website so that it no longer reads “Students Impacted:”, but reads “Students Affected:” or even “Students helped:”.

Only teeth are impacted, all others are affected.

    Sincerely,
    K. Reames

Brits can donate using a credit card on the site as well. I just did! Just list your state as NY and fill in the other address details correctly, and it works fine.

Whoo-hoo! I’ll be donating when my next paycheck comes in on the 12th!

Also, Sars, I had to link you this- a cassette tape tote! How cool is that!? Sadly, it’s too big for me to cart around. I wish they had made it a tad smaller.

Can someone help me out and tell me where I can donate to the challenge in general, without selecting a particular project? Since none of these are in my area, I’d like my money to go wherever it’s needed.

  • Lori says:

    Congrats, Sars!

And condolences on the Mets flameout … but it must be said:

    GO PHILLIES!

  • Sars says:

@Kitten: You’ll have to take that up with the Donors Choose peeps, I can’t control what’s on their website.

  • Sars says:

@RB: You may have to send me a gift certificate or something; try emailing the DC staff to ask how that works.

  • Margaret in CO says:

RB, I donated last time & just chose a class that needed art supplies, because I like art. You could choose to fund something you believe in…

And I got the SWEETEST thank you note from the class, and pictures of the kids using those art supplies too! Best warm-fuzzy ever! This is an AWESOME project!

  • B says:

Hey, I think if you go to the Home page and click on ‘Quick Donation’ at the top, you can give them money for general purposes. I’m pretty sure you’d still get a donation receipt which could then be forwarded to Sars.

  • Melissa says:

Happy October 1st, Sars! Joyfully gave so kids can read at home. This is such a great project.

Hey, what did you decide to do about getting your costume?? ‘CAUSE you’re going to need it!

  • Jennifer says:

I love the Fall Challenge. I love even more that I’ve had a good year financially and was able to 100% fund one of the projects. But what I will love most of all is the upcoming video of Sars in full Tomato Regalia. Can. Not. Wait. :-D

  • Cij says:

Sars, I am $175 poorer but two projects are now more funded. I hope you get the chance to freak out Andy Samberg (or someone from SNL) in a lovely tomato regalia!

  • A^3 says:

I’m a little confused… maybe another reader can help me?
How does Sars know we’ve donated for her in the Blogger Challenge? Is it recorded automatically by donating from her donation page? Do we have to send some kind of receipt?

  • Meg says:

A^3–If you donate from her donation page, the money automatically increases (as does the percentage) and the amount needed for the project you’ve chosen will decrease by the amount you donated. They do ask if you want your name included, or if you want to be anonymous, but I believe this is in regards to the recipients of the project you donated to. I don’t believe (although I could be wrong) that Sars would know who donated specifically, only the dollar amount as a collective group.

You will receive a confirmation email from DonorsChoose.org after you’ve donated. If you forward this email to Sars, she will enter you into her own contests for a chance to win prizes (and she will know your donation specifics, because they are included in the email). Hope that helps.

  • A^3 says:

Meg – Thanks for the info! I was really just wondering since there were TN contests involved (eg today’s Oort project donors for a copy of the Space Camp DVD). I’m totally not in it for the contests, though. Even better will be taking the train into NYC on Tomato dance day!
