I need clear/translucent sticky notes, preferable outside of the square shape or at least fairly large. I do not want a colour tint, though maybe a very minimal amount of colour will do.

Daiso used to sell them, but I bought all their stock a few years ago (a whole three packs) and now they no longer carry them. Muji carries them, and these are absolutely perfect, but $8.50 plus shipping for only 20 sheets is too steep. I already know of Avery Clear note tabs, but I’d prefer no tab at all.

Thanks!

*****

I have an ask the readers question about a novel I read in primary school. It was for readers around 8-10 years old I think, and I read it in maybe 1983.

It was set in NYC and was about a class of students in a primary school, maybe around grade 5 (sorry, I’m Australian, don’t know what you call that in the States [“fifth grade” — SDB]) all from different walks of life, who might have been put in remedial English study. They were given a thesaurus and shared it amongst themselves going on all sorts of adventures, getting to know and understand each other. I remember the rich girl had her housekeeper wrap up some lamb chops for a picnic and she might have also have some puppies or kittens, and I think there was a peanut-butter-in-hair situation at one point.

I remember loving this book and it I would love to share it with my niece.

Any ideas what it might be, Tomato Nation?  Google has failed me.

Sticky … amazon.com has delivered these babies, which appear perhaps slightly yellow-tinted but might do the trick?

  • Maria says:

Here are Clear Notes, the only issue being that you’d have to order them from the UK.

Auntie D, I think your book is A Word to the Wise by Alison Craigin Herzig. (Found on alibris.com.) I loved that book too!

  • mrs_f says:

Hey, that didn’t work. Let’s try just the ugly way: http://www.amazon.com/Avery-Sticky-Inches-100-Sheets-22540/dp/B004VJSG7U

Well, for the labels, there’s these, which have filmstrip-style edges and are fairly large. They’re not quite what you’re after but they might do in a pinch. You might do a bit better with this cube, which probably has more color than you want but a lot less than the other options I’m seeing. But behold! That Amazon seller, Sticky Notes & Beyond, also offers these sort of cloudy-clear ones which might do nicely. Also pink ones shaped like ghosts, which I may or may not have just discovered I need.

These sticky notes in no way fill the bill for Sticky, but seeing them made my day. Want. http://www.amazon.com/Get-The-Hint-Loud-Clear/dp/B002KH00IS

  • Kim says:

Oh, yeah, Bria: not only want, but NEED. Amazon will wonder, I’m sure, at the sudden sales spike.

  • Rachel says:

@Bria: Um, those are effing awesome!! :)

  • Pam says:

Krista is right, the book is Word to the Wise. I read it so many times I probably have it memorized. The thesaurus bubble gummed to the top of the head! “I long, desire and pine for a dog”! The sign making party under the bleachers! Such a good book.

  • aunty d says:

Sars, thank you so much for posting my letter, and Krista, thank you so much for answering my question! You are right. This is the book I have been searching for for so long. I think I’m pretty good at googling but when the only words I had to search with were thesaurus, novel, and school kids, I was never able to find it. It seems to be out of print but I’ll track down a second hand copy and can’t wait to read it again before I hand it down to the young nieces.

Such a special book that I have never forgotten and always wanted to revisit. Thank you Tomato nation community for making that possible.

    Mazel!

  • Aunty d says:

Thank you Pam! Yes it is the book and your recollections of it have made so excited to reads it again. I knew there were puppies! I had started to think I had imagined this book, but clearly this wonderful and inspiring tale came from a greater imagination than mine. Thank you all for your help/

Bria, I actually have those “effings” sticky notes and use them at work sometimes with my boss. Thankfully he has a sense of humor.

  • Lamoshe says:

Bria, I have those notes in my desk drawer! I have not used them yet, though. This is clearly the reminder I need to get them out and put them to work!
