The Vine: September 5, 2014

I am trying to remember a book I read sometime since the turn of the 21st century.

I know I read a review on Salon which piqued my interest and I checked the book out from the library, thoroughly enjoyed it and now can’t remember the author’s name. I had no luck searching Salon’s archives. Here’s the particulars:

It’s a mystery set in current-day Los Angeles; a man wakes up wounded in a hospital bed with two homicide detectives standing over him and no memory of how he got there. They are waiting to question him about the murder of his ex-GF whose body was next to his when he was found. The book is about the man piecing together what happened and whether or not he is guilty of murder.

I can’t remember what the man’s occupation was and I also can’t remember much about the GF. Too many murder mysteries and true-crime books under my belt since then. You understand. :-)

I believe the author was male, also based in L.A. and I think his last name started with a G. I would like to check what else he may have written, since I remember enjoying this one a bunch. Any hints the Nation can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dayna
