Contest: Boogie Shoes

degrassi_manny_emmaWell, well, well.  $81,274! The thanks of a grateful Nation go to $ and His Mysterians for the 5K match we got at $75,000 — and of course to all 740 of you who have donated so far.

The Great And Powerful Asirda is quite touched and impressed with your work so far…so much so, in fact, that she's mulling an increase in our 90K match. Stay tuned for more details.

Haven't donated yet?  Consider it!  We've got a lot of ground to cover — and I've got a wagonload of loot to give away, thanks to your generous and creative fellow readers.  Cookies!  Video games!  A tiny fiddle!  And winning a mini-prize doesn't mean you can't win a famous original prize; you totally can.

Speaking of mini-prizes: boy, have I got some sweetness for you today.  Donate to any project you would like and you could win a $50 e-certificate to Zappos, OR one of five (5) Degrassi shirts, compliments of the well-connected and rad Duana T. No day like today, eh?  As usz: forward me your receipts for any donation made today by 11:59 PM ET.

    I love Degrassi. Shamelessly, unapologetically.

I think we should hit 90K today guys. Because that would be even more awesome than Degrassi.

  2. rlb14 says:

This morning we were at 286 projects funded +/- 1 or 2 projects. No reason not to be able to clear 300 today if people really hit those projects with just around $100 to go.

  3. Melissa says:

The only prize I want is more pix of Master S. in cute costumes!!

  4. Jessica says:

I have never seen any Degrassi, and must confess that I was at first wondering why Sars was posting pictures of Bristol Palin. So I should probably hold off my next donation until tomorrow.

However, Sars, I'll make you a deal. You open a thread to talk about the ALCS, and I'll kick money towards this project. Because between the extra innings, the wacky pitching changes, the Fox closeups of just-benched pitchers (Brooding! Andy! Pettite!), the Angels' crappy baserunning, and the fact that Mark Teixiera is far uglier than I realized when he was a Brave and I was listening to the games on the radio… there is a lot to talk about, I would say.

  5. Sarah D. Bunting says:

    @Jessica: Done and done.

  6. Maria says:

Totally feeling the $90K vibe today. Possibly because I just found $25 I forgot I was getting this month. Yay, unexpected income! I'ma go buy some DESKS (are you friggin kidding me) for kids in OK.

  7. Jenn says:

@Jessica: Actually, Manny is the Bristol Palin of "Degrassi," so good call.

  8. attica says:

Good choice @Jessica. You're making me all spendy!

  9. Sheila says:

w00t! Got my $50 card from DC today for setting up my monthly donation. *dives into projects*

  10. charmaine says:

2 things. Just read this on the DC blog! http://blog.donorschoose.org/blog/2009/10/20/hp-contributes-250000-to-the-social-media-challenge/
If I am reading right the remaining $200,000 will be divided up on the giving pages from totals through Sunday, October 25. So the bigger our total is then the bigger monies we will get and closer to the goal. Is this right, Sarah?

2-I just received my $50 gift card for signing up for automatic donation at DC…Yippee, way less than 30 days and now I get to spend it with TN. Have to go and get it done.

  11. Lis says:

Wheee! I just got my $50 gift certificate from DC for signing up for a monthly donation!!! So there's another $50 back into the contest! I love this game!

  12. BetsyD says:

I just donated $10 to "Engaging Explorations…" and wished I could have given ten times that.

  13. Vanessa says:

Half way to the next match! Keep it up!!! :)

  14. Sarah D. Bunting says:

@charmaine: Yes, I got an email to that effect today. I'll make a more front-and-center announcement later about it, but in the meantime, the more we raise by 10/25, the more we're eligible for. I'll try to get more details.

  15. Elizabeth says:

We shouldn't have much trouble here — we're beating everybody including HP. But, you know, just in case…

  16. Vanessa says:

@ Sarah: So, if i did the math right, Tomato Nation is responsible for about 38% of the money raised through the Social Media Challenge. This would mean, proportionally, $78,000 dollars would allocated to the Tomato Nation?

  17. Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Vanessa: …I like that answer! Yes!

…I don't actually know how they plan to split up the pot. Do I think you guys deserve to take credit for seventy-eight grand? Yes I do. Every day, all day, fuck yeah. But they may have some fine-printy system that doesn't work that way, which is also fine, because it's free money to buy kids hatchlings and pens and whatnot, so whatever. I'm waiting to hear, and I will tell you what I know when I know it.

  18. Elizabeth says:

@Vanessa: Are they going to count the money that HP itself has kicked in, though, or just the money donated by other people? I think our percentage goes way up in the latter case.
