Around the Audiosphere: “Boob-eyes!”

Submitted by on December 6, 2010 – 8:43 AM11 Comments

I hope you will care to enjoy my rich baritone contributions to the Extra Hot Great podcast’s ninth episode, “C’est Magnifique,” in which we discussed a plethora of topics, including but not limited to the friendship-threatening properties of Twix; the ageless Dr. Drew; ROYGBIV, now in verb format; and the Hoff — and during which I choked big-time on a game that is definitely not Match Game.

Warning: contains Dylan McKay.

I’d also like to thank my friends and heroes at Pop Culture Happy Hour for the mention last week. Readers, if your commute has become aurally dull and predictable, please consider adding EHG and PCHH to your iTunes subscriptions lists. Hilarious; free!

I listened to the Extra Hot Great podcast. Loved it & will subscribe. The section about movie etiquette — I’m sure my neighbors heard me laughing (I’m very conscious about “overlaughing” when I’m out in public… hilarious that that came up.) But truly, so many pet peeves were addressed.

I also learned something new: the Canadian pronunciation of “corollary.” For a moment I panicked, thinking I’d been saying it wrong all my life. Whew.

As far as the Match Game segment: when I was a kid, I used to force my family to play “Match Game”, complete with index cards, markers, and a Gene Rayburn-style fake mic I had made myself. It was a predictor of so much in my life.

Well, you’ve enlivened the evening commute of everyone at my bus stop, because now I am the lady who might not be wearing earphones (because they’re hidden by my hair and winter hat I swear) but who keeps busting out into a donkey laugh.

    HAPPY NOW?

    (…I certainly am.)

  • Profreader says:

Aw, looks like we can’t subscribe via iTunes in the US (will just have to get it from the site, I guess.)

In “it’s a small world” news, the commenter just after me is coincidentally my sister, who lives in a different city. Weird!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

I’m subscribed to both podcasts mentioned, and haven’t had any problems.

  • c8h10n4o2 says:

I can’t subscribe over iTunes either. Can’t even find it on iTunes Store with the Mac. And it doesn’t seem to want to let me download from the site, only listen in browser. Sad horns.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Just to clarify: you have to search for/subscribe to Tomato Nation, not Squared Up. Does that change anything?

  • Profreader says:

Not to turn this into a thread where I become my Aunt Freda while trying to subscribe to a podcast (“What’s a podcast? Do I need a podradio? Do I put it in my Google?” etc.) but: I did find “Squared Up” via searching for Tomato Nation so, yay! But Extra Hot Great remains a mystery: I can’t find it by searching on iTunes, and if I go to the EHG site and click the “iTunes” link, it brings me to a screen on iTunes which says I can’t subscribe in this country. I was able to download the mp3 from their site (although the default is to play through the browser.) C8H10: if you have a Mac, you have to press the “control” key while you click on the “download the podcast directly” link, and choose “Save linked file as…” and go from there.

(Just figured I’d post this in case anyone else has this issue.)

  • c8h10n4o2 says:

Profreader: Yep, thanks. Tried that. No luck. I suppose it might be time to upgrade from 10.4? But the problem that I was having was finding EHG on iTunes. No combo of search terms gave me anything remotely close.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Glark mentioned he was having some issues with it; you may want to post in the EHG comments and let him know (or see if anyone’s found a solution). Sorry it’s being annoying and unportable!

  • Nick says:

I found out about EHG from a post here at Tomato Nation, so glad to hear you guest star this week, Sars! My first guess for the Match Game question about Spike was also “a lady.”

  • c8h10n4o2 says:

Got it! It took an option-click to get the direct download to work, and I think that that may be the first time I’ve used that key. Gonna be some interesting dog-walking going on. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
