The Tomato Nation Fall Classic: CHARGE!

Submitted by on October 29, 2010 – 11:11 AM12 Comments

“Hey, guys. Master Stupidhead here. Aunt Dodo says you only have three days left to raise $6,145. Dodo says that money could help send kids to college, or buy catcher’s mitts for kids in India. …Maybe it’s Indiana, I forget. Of course, Dodo also says I can play with her Blackberry as much as I want because if I break it she can justify buying herself a Droid, but it’s not like that’s a lie or anything. It’s just kind of weird. Like Dodo.

But the point is that you should donate today, tomorrow, and Sunday, because it’s really important. You can get candy and other prizes if you forward your receipts any time this weekend! The donation button is right down at the bottom there.

My astronaut costume and I will be back on Sunday to remind you guys. …Hey, Cheerios! [zzzzip!]”

Well, you heard the boy. Get on that. Or…

that might happen.

Deliberately using cute pics of your nephew to strongarm people into donating…low blow, Sars.

    And yet…effective, too. Well played.

  • RJ says:

Today is payday for me. Granted, the paycheck is already allocated to things like rent and electricity, but there’s $13.87 magically left over from last paycheck. Since I’m not going to spend that money playing catch, I’m going to donate it to kids who will. I know it’s not a lot, but it’s what I can do. And I hope that combined with what you can do, it makes a big difference.

  • Janie says:

Master Stupidhead has the same high chair as my niece!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    @cay: Dodo doesn’t fuck around.

@RJ: No donation too small! Every dollar helps.

  • attica says:

Can the etymological derivation of ‘Dodo’ from ‘Sarah’ be divulged? I already fell sway to Master S and put in a few dollars, but I’d be willing to pay again for that story….

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

I’ve been called “Sadie” — an old-time nickname for Sarah — in front of/to the Master since he was born, so he thinks that’s my name. A few months ago, as I was leaving, Gen told him, “Say goodbye to Sadie! Say ‘bye-bye, Sadie’!” and The Master said, “Ba-ba, Dodo.”

Then we all started saying it as kind of a joke, because it was cute, and we just never stopped — and now I’m Dodo.

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

Unfortunately, my bank account was hacked and my money stolen–the bank will refund it, but not until after the deadline, I’m afraid.
    :(

Sars, is there any way I can send a small token to the kids in India after the deadline?

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    …Jesus. That’s horrible!

Yes, of course. We have various baseball-related pledges that may not get squared away until November, so whenever you get your life back, send what you can. (You may need to remind me in a few days, if I’m making shutting-down noises.)

  • Natalie says:

    Cannot. Resist. The Cute.

So in honor of Master S and my niece (9 months old today!) and all their possible future baseball activities, a donation.

  • K. says:

Jen S., I’ve been there. It’s an awful feeling. Even though intellectually I knew I would get my money back and overdrafts waived, it’s still a terrible feeling – I bawled. Just wanted to commiserate.

  • Anotherkate says:

I just donated to celebrate my new job!

  • Keckler says:

Dude. I love the Amish cap your parents forced on your head. It’s right out of my childhood favorite, Henner’s Lydia.
