Still somewhat vacated

I would have updated more extensively yesterday, but Wing and I finally got a TV in our office and the time I’d planned to spend on an entry was devoted instead to staring at a Twilight Zone episode and trying to decide if the lead guest actor was Bill Bixby.

So.Things to look forward to!1. A Vine.2. A GBC.3. How to identify Guidos in the wild.4. Cape Notes: The Revenge.Abandoned kites, Steve Bronsky, Skyrockets hits himself in the head with a Frisbee on purpose, and much much more!

Updates!I got those black cord cargos, and the bad news is that they were on Bluefly for a reason, to wit: the weakest buttons in Buttonia. The good news is I got a sewing badge in Girl Scouts so we’re all good.I also got a new tote from Brooklyn Industries, which is so pockety, I almost can’t use them all (I know!).The only downside is the center pocket zip, which is unidirectional, plus the pocket is so wide and the zip goes all the way from one end to the other. But I think I can make it work until I decide on one of the other bags.(It’s the Heritage Large H; I had a Heritage Lexy but it wasn’t deep enough.)

To do until I get my act together today!

Follow the continuing DC/P&G face-off on the Amex site (and vote, if you haven’t already)

Dig Fire Joe Morgan’s latest delicious takedown of one of my writing nemeses, Mike Lupica

Enjoy Wing’s imagining of the pitch meeting for Mission: Man Band

Watch: the Orson Welles version of Jane Eyre; PBS’s POV episode, entitled “Prison Town, USA”; Making The Band 4; The Chocolate War, starring Hodges from CSI in a very affecting performance (and Adam Baldwin, looking 42 years old); The Simpsons, either the fantastic movie or the older episodes currently (finally!) airing on Fox 5 in the evenings

Tell me if I should watch: Welcome to the Parker

Get psyched for: The Bourne Ultimatum; the foaming fit and a half I’m probably going to have in this space once I get around to watching Real Sports and Costas NOW

OH! New GBC Coming! I’ve missed it so much!

  • Anne-Cara says:

So I went and read the Man Band pitch meeting, and now I have THAT SONG stuck in my head. I BLAME YOU.

  • Jennifer says:

“Welcome to the Parker” is VERY light. It’s OK if youre doing something else, like a puzzle or complicated knitted lace, and you just want background noise. If you liked Blowout or Working Out, you might like it more than i do.

  • Jen says:

Ooh, I love the Orson Welles version of Jane Eyre. I could listen to his voice all day.

  • Teresa says:

I watched both “Welcome to the Parker” and “Flipping Out.” I was really impressed with “Flipping Out”, but “Welcome to the Parker” seems to have a bit of the “Hey Paula” disease. No real story there. When the episode was over, it really seemed like nothing had happened.

  • Jessica says:

I would not recommend “Welcome to the Parker.” The episode I watched involved ping pong, which would usually be enough for me to whole heartedly endorse it regardless of the premise, but afterwards instead of feeling friviously entertained I just hated myself. So skip it. Unless self-hatred is your kind of thing.

  • Kristen says:

I’m a hotel manager, and Welcome to the Parker is very boring to me… I suspect it will turn out to be boring to everyone. The characters don’t seem very engaging, and it just feels like a waste of time while you’re watching it.

Now Ace of Cakes, on the other hand…

  • Emily says:

Heh, “Buttonia.” I know you were talking about buttons, but in my head, Buttonia is a land peopled by walking buttocks…es. Thanks for that!

  • Sally Rufus says:

The Bourne Ultimatum is great fun; you’re going to enjoy it, I think. Nothing too surprising, but fantastic action and cat-and-mouse stuff.

  • Jenny says:

I too am ridiculously excited about the Bourne movie. I don’t know why, really, because while I enjoyed the first two I wasn’t rushing out to the theater to catch them. This time I’m counting the days.

  • S. says:

Do you think the next movie in the series will be ‘Bourne Free’?

    S.

  • Tallulah says:

God. I was all excited at the thought of a new GBC and then you blew my brain out of its own tiny little mind by mentioning The Chocolate War, one of my favourite books (when I was a kid) and movies (when I was a teenager) and the main reason I have hung on and watched with great interest, the career of Wallace Langham. Man, he made an outstanding Archie. And John Glover before the mess that his hair became in Smallville. Sigh.

  • Sam says:

And WAS it Bill Bixby? What of Bill Bixby?!?!

  • ErininMD says:

ADAM BALDWIN!?! Ooohh. I heart him.

Now … when you say he is looking 42 is that good or bad. God, he’s hot.

Bourne Free made me laugh. Good thing I don’t share an office any more. Now I’m snorting. Adam would not heart me.

  • Laurabelle says:

“PBS’s POV episode, entitled ‘Prison Town, USA’ ”

I flipped past this this other night as I was headed for bed and stayed up another hour watching all fascinated-like. Some bits cloyed — like how they featured the Most Sympathetic Ex-Con in the Whole Wide World (and I totally did sympathize but felt that it wasn’t anywhere near a typical picture of the prison residents) — but overall it was an excellent depiction of the lives and economy near a huge prison.

  • Sars says:

I kind of loved Lonnie The Sweetest Ex-Con In The Whole World, but…dude, if you can’t find work, and you got arrested in the first place because you were STEALING FOOD for YOUR KIDS, maaaaaaybe the best strategy in the world is not to…have another kid, right then. Unexpected things happen, sure, but if I’m in a situation where I have to make a box of Pasta-Roni last two days, I’m double-bagging the birth control.

Baldwin was looking 42 in 1987. Not good or bad, just weird given that he’s supposed to be playing a high school senior. Again.

    It wasn’t Bill Bixby.

And those ping-pong douches on Welcome To The Parker were unbelievable. Way to hold your liquor, boys.
