It took a little while to get going, and certain payoffs weren’t quite earned, but I really liked the kid and I really liked Judy Davis; I don’t think her character was written with as much depth as she wound up giving it. I always forget how good she is. And Spacey is not the most believable straight male in the world here, but he’s more understated and less mannered than in recent roles. Not much to the movie, and that rant at the end was sort of fakey, but it’s enjoyable. (1/10/05)
