Full update shortly, but here’s one to hold you (photo compliments of reader M.E.B.). This is me in the No Child Left Behind hut in front of the Department of Education:
Thanks so much to everyone who came out, both to troop all around the Mall and to drink some beers. And if you’re one of the four dozen high-school students who took pictures with/interviewed me: welcome! Send me your pics and I’ll add them to the Flickr group.
If you’re Miss Alli: I forgive you for making me ride that carousel, but only because of the Starbucks.

There you are in FRONT of my office, almost directly below my cube, probably when I was looking for you on the Hill (can’t get to Twitter from govt computers, so I knew I was taking a chance). Grrr.
Hope it was fun.
And, let me add — do you KNOW how many rotund tourists visiting the Capitol wear red coats? Every time I spotted a round red shape, I was like, “Ooh, is that her?” Nope.
I wonder how much was spent building that generally useless (but rather useful for this one photograph) installation? Sometimes NCLB seems like a crumb trail.

I’ve seen that “hut” from the side, but never seen the front view. I always assumed it was some kind of retro train station thingy. Which makes only slightly less sense than what it actually is, I guess.
Sars, so fantastically good to finally meet you and Mr. Stupidhead. Hope you enjoyed our Nation’s Capital as much as we enjoyed having you. (Now, let’s talk baseball. Please tell me the Cubs’ll get it done this year.)
Re the schoolhouses on the ED building: Despite their painful twee-ness, they were actually constructed to protect people entering and exiting the building from flying construction debris when the building was having work done last-year-ish. I don’t know why they’ve kept the one, though.

I remember when you were taking suggestions for things to do in DC, and I said “ride the carousel on the Mall!” Sars, I’m go glad you got to do that. My 18-month-old loves that thing; I hope you enjoyed your ride too, side saddle and all.
See, I knew my laser eye surgery was good for something! When we passed that in the cab on the way to meet you I yelled “We MUST get pics of the Tomato in that HUT!” Glad it all ended up working out. It was great meeting you all, I’ll be uploading all the pics Jay took to flickr hopefully tonight. I had a great time, thanks again!

Did you get a new beanie? I saw some of last year’s NYC pics and there was decidedly more foliage on the Tomato then. The beanie is super-cute, though, so I compeletely understand the swappage.
